Chapter 2019 - 2016: I’m Hitting You
"Wha... what’s happening?" Zhu Chun’s voice trembled, his eyes filled with terror and confusion.
The crowd instantly went on high alert, their soul power circulating as they vigilantly scanned their surroundings.
The sixteen giant sculptures that had been motionless now seemed to be given life. Their eyes flickered with a ghostly blue light, and one cold gaze after another shot directly at the group.
"Damn, it looks like the mechanism has been triggered!"
"Not good, everyone spread out quickly!"
Amidst the exclamations, a deafening roar suddenly erupted.
The sixteen sculptures simultaneously exerted force, their swords, spears, and halberds enveloped with powerful soul power, raining down upon the crowd.
Xu Wendong reacted swiftly, soul power surging instantly to his legs. In the nick of time, he stretched out his arms, securely lifting Li Jiayin and Zhao Ying’er, and swiftly retreated.
"Boom!" The spot where the group had stood moments before was instantly blasted into a charred pit, sending stones flying.
"Who...who triggered the mechanism? Don’t they know how cautious one must be when entering this place?" Zhu Xuan fumed, her delicate face twisted with anger as she scolded sharply.
In the distance, Zhu Chun’s face was flushed, scratching his head awkwardly.
To save face, he roared out, swinging his sharp sword, sending a fierce sword qi speeding towards the giant sculpture.
The sword qi struck like lightning, instantly slicing away the stone attire on the sculpture.
With a "bang," stone fragments flew, revealing a dazzling golden light from the sculpture’s body—it turned out to be adorned with golden battle armor underneath!
"Intruder, die!" A muffled roar emanated from the sculpture, and the stricken sculpture swung its massive fist, the wind howling as it slammed down towards the group.
"Stop it! You’re just making things worse!" Xu Wendong shouted angrily, realizing Zhu Chun’s impulsive actions had enraged the sculptures, leading to the loss of control of the situation.
"Ah, save me!" screamed a terrified disciple from a powerful faction, but it was too late.
The sculpture’s fist came crashing down, instantly turning him into a pile of pulp.
The bloody scene was like a heavy hammer, pounding fiercely upon the hearts of the crowd.
Though they were the prodigies of the Da Yin Dynasty, shining in glory, with cultivation levels reaching the seventh or eighth layer of the Tongyou Realm, here, in front of these sculptures, they were akin to ants, utterly powerless.
"Go!" Qian Wuming’s eyes flashed as he swiftly pulled out several Netherworld Talismans, which he flung like throwing darts, precisely sticking to the sculptures.
In an instant, the Netherworld Talismans exploded, and waves of soul power rippled out rapidly.
Despairingly, the attacks had no effect on the sculptures. In just a moment, all the stone attire on the sculptures fell away, revealing the lustrous golden battle armor.
"Damn, the Netherworld Talismans are useless against them." Qian Wuming’s face turned ashen, his lips twitching in despair.
These sculptures not only seemed immune to pain; their defense was astonishing, and their numbers were vast—at this rate, they would all perish here.
"Idiot!" Xu Wendong cursed irritably.
Hearing this, Zhu Chun’s anger surged immediately, his eyes reddened as he snarled viciously, "Kid, it’s all your fault! If it weren’t for you, how would we be in this hopeless situation!" With that, he brandished his sword, charging at Xu Wendong like a madman, determined to kill him first, even if he had to die.
"How could he say such a thing?" Li Jiayin and Zhao Ying’er were both shocked and furious, never expecting Zhu Chun to be so shameless.
The scene was chaotic. Just as Zhu Chun was about to reach Xu Wendong, a golden light suddenly shot down from one of the sculptures, enveloping him.
As the light flickered, Zhu Chun’s figure vanished, and that sculpture ceased its attack.
"Huh? This seems like Inheritance Holy Light." Qian Wuming’s eyes flashed with surprise, and then he shouted excitedly, "I understand now, hidden within these sixteen sculptures is the inheritance of the Divine Fire Hall."
"Being chosen by the Inheritance Holy Light allows one to enter the sculpture and gain the inheritance; if one fails, they will perish, but if successful, they can unlock a sculpture!"
Upon hearing this, the group was momentarily stunned, then suddenly enlightened.
The Divine Fire Hall had hidden its inheritance within these sculptures in such a dangerous manner—if they couldn’t even withstand the first wave of attacks, they had no chance of obtaining the inheritance.
Meanwhile, more and more golden light beams shot from the sculptures, enveloping the crowd present.
"I...I was chosen." Li Jiayin exclaimed, both surprised and delighted.
Almost simultaneously, Zhao Ying’er was also enveloped by a beam of golden light.
Before Zhao Ying’er could finish speaking, the two were instantly taken away by the golden light.
As more and more people were taken away by the light, eventually, only Xu Wendong and Da Yin Dynasty Princess Zhu Xuan were left in the arena.
At this moment, a gentle yet mysteriously charged light enveloped both of them.
"You were chosen along with me?" Zhu Xuan’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, her eyes full of surprise.
In her eyes, Xu Wendong was just a "native" of the Heavenly Nether Domain, unlikely to ever leave it, but the current circumstances made her realize she might have underestimated this young man.
Xu Wendong couldn’t be bothered with Zhu Xuan, allowing the light to envelop him.
With a flash of light, he appeared in a white, boundless space.
There was no direction here, just pure white. Next, Zhu Xuan appeared beside him.
Their eyes met, and Zhu Xuan spoke first: "Where’s the inheritance? Wasn’t it supposed to appear?"
"Shut up, find it yourself if you want the inheritance." Xu Wendong retorted irritably.
Zhu Xuan wasn’t used to being treated this way; usually, those men she encountered would grovel and flatter her.
Yet Xu Wendong was not only cold towards her but also full of disdain.
"Kid, are you trying to get my attention with this attitude?" Zhu Xuan sneered confidently, "Don’t worry, I won’t care about a bumpkin like you. No matter what you do, you can’t change the fact that you were born lowly."
Xu Wendong’s eyes turned cold, thinking to himself: This princess of the Da Yin Dynasty is truly spoiled, thinking she’s the center of the world.
Coming to get a treasure required such a fuss, simply like a giant infant!
"Shut your mouth and stay away from me, don’t get in my way while I look for the inheritance." Xu Wendong said impatiently.
"Hmph, still putting on airs?" Zhu Xuan pouted disdainfully, "I told you, your tactics don’t work on me."
Xu Wendong, at the end of his patience, stepped forward and, with a loud "slap," struck Zhu Xuan hard across the face.
Zhu Xuan covered her face, her eyes filled with shock, leaving her completely stunned.
"You... you dared to hit me?"
"Of course I did! You’re always nagging, do you really think you’re a princess?" Xu Wendong coldly stated.
"You want to die!" Zhu Xuan roared angrily, attempting to mobilize her soul power for a counterattack, only to find that her soul power and Yin energy seemed to have vanished, impossible to harness...
