Rebirth: Revenge of the abandoned heirress

Chapter 111: I’m the one in Sebestian heart

"Sarah, tell them I didn’t say anything of this sort. What are you waiting for?" Annabel Blackwood felt anxious when Sarah didn’t say anything for a long time. "The things she said are so loathsome. I would never imagine saying something like that. I can’t believe the character of the woman President Crowne fancies would stoop to such underhanded lies. Jazmine Harrison, if you don’t care for your reputation, at least show some restraint for President Crowne’s sake!"

After all, Annabel thought Sebastian Crowne was a man of reason, and he wouldn’t side with one against two.

She greatly underestimated Sebastian’s affection for Jazmine. But Sarah didn’t. She knew that man would bring down the moon if Jazmine asked. And though it hurt her, she knew it to be the truth.

"Elder sister, you are my family and I love you. But I must not tell lies." Sarah Blackwood refused to meet Annabel’s eyes. She looked as though it was taking a great toll on her to betray her sister. Her performance was immaculate. "Forgive me."

"Sarah!" Annabel was stunned. In fear, she quickly looked at Sebastian, who had Jazmine in his arms. She noticed the subtle shift in his expression and it terrified her.

"You threatened Jazmine even though I tried to stop you." Sarah kept her head low and sobbed softly. She hugged herself, pretending to shrink away. A virtuous woman who would choose honesty over kin.

"How could you say that?" Annabel couldn’t believe her sister would betray her. Receiving a cold shoulder from Sarah, she started to lose her composure. "President Crowne, I didn’t say any such thing, I swear! You know me well. Have I ever appeared to be that sort of vulgar woman to you?" Admitting her guilt to this ferocious devil was akin to suicide.

"Then how do you explain your sister’s words?" His voice was cold—bone-chilling. Annabel even wished he’d shouted. The low, emotionless tone gave her no sense of his anger’s depth. And the fear of the unknown is one’s worst enemy.

"My sister is docile, as President knows best. She must have been scared of offending Jazmine considering how much you cherish her. She cares for you most of all, and by accusing Jazmine, she feared it would wound your heart, and therefore hurt you." Annabel grabbed at anything in her panicked state. And she could swear—under the sobbing, fragile mask—she saw Jazmine giggle, just for a moment, before snuggling closer into Sebastian’s arms.
