Chapter 175 - 175: Bedrock is Cracked
Bedrock is Cracked
A few days had passed since the fight, and Osho had primarily stayed in his lab and used the training room.
Why? Well, there were a few reasons.
For starters, Osho was mass-producing tonics. Yes, actual tonics, not an excuse to evolve any of his beasts this time.
Osho had increased the scope of how his ability worked these past few months, and with the right ingredients, he could now produce items meant for Beasts to consume, and said items could be used by multiple beasts, unlike how evolution was far more stringent in what beasts could and couldn't be evolved with a specific method.
That said, what was the reason for him to make tonics? After all, one of the benefits he received from joining Stellaris was more than a bit of money to splurge freely.
For that, Osho wanted to increase what he could do to keep his ability under wraps. After all, he couldn't keep saying he needed a lab to practice and have no results to show for it. Moreover, when people realize how those close to him as well as himself somehow have beasts of high-level potential consistently while he doesn't produce anything people would expect him to produce, it wouldn't be hard to figure out that he had some involvement in their high potential.
Other than that, though, Osho simply believed that he was better.
He had bought some other tonics, and when he compared them to what he made, he realized that his were simply above most of what was on the market.
Tonics were fairly varied in the types they came in, but the most common were Breakthrough Tonics which helped a beast when they wanted to break through to the next rank. There were Vitality Tonics which helped beasts recover faster, though, they weren't healing potions.
There were Nutrient Tonics which helped beasts digest natural treasures and food more easily, reinforcement tonics which temporarily strengthen a beast's physique to allow them to train under strenuous conditions longer, and so on.
Of all of them, Vitality and Reinforcement Tonics were in higher demand due to their practical use across virtually all ranks. After all, training and exhaustion went hand-in-hand, especially among tamers who trained with their beasts frequently.
Hence, Osho focused on these two, though, he still made some others for certain situations.
Anyway, when Osho tested the effects of these Tonics by using his beasts as willing test subjects. No there was no sarcasm. He reported that the effects of his creations were significantly greater than those available on the market with significantly lower side effects.
Bedrock especially liked the Nutrient Tonics as they helped him digest and assimilate the ores he ate better.
Gale was a fan of the Reinforcement Tonics as it allowed him to do more dumb shit with his already strangely durable body, which seemed to suit the bird just fine.
What was even better was the fact that the ingredients Osho used weren't overly expensive and could be found with only a bit of effort, meaning that if he wanted to go all in on making Tonics to earn some cash, he wouldn't be making a loss, as long as he made sales anyway.
Moving on from Tonics, another reason, Osho had been moving between his lab and his training room was Bedrock.
While the fight with Gale had certainly been an eye-opener, there was still a lot Osho had yet to discover about his new beast.
For instance, Osho discovered that Bedrock could absorb the earth to heal his wounds. He knew this because shortly after the fight with Gale, he watched as Bedrock casually pulled out chunks of earth from the ground and molded them like clay before applying them to his body, and the wounds he'd sustained healed at a visible rate.
Upon further analysis, Osho saw that, similar to his ability to give his body attributes of ores he ate, he could similarly heal faster depending on what ore he ate, and ores with properties similar to self-repair worked the best.
Speaking of, Osho made Bedrock down a bunch of those so that he could heal on his own, which worked pretty well.
Anyway, another thing was the armor he used when he started fighting Gale. Bedrock couldn't speak, so he couldn't explain it properly, but Osho more or less understood what he meant.
To summarize, when Bedrock ate an ore, he didn't simply assimilate it and take on its properties.
Instead, there was something a lot more complex going on within his body. Specifically, within his heart.
According to the gorilla, there was a sort of alternate space within his heart where all these ores he consumed were stored, studied, and nurtured.
Osho wasn't sure what the nurturing part entailed, as for the studying part, it was what allowed Bedrock's body to take on the properties of these ores as they were analyzed, and his body essentially copied the good properties and printed them on him, allowing him to do things the ores could do.
Moreover, his body could continuously produce these ores as long as energy was supplied, which is how he was able to form that armor, and if he wanted, he could create other constructs at the cost of energy, which was pretty easily eliminated since he could absorb energy from the surrounding earth.
This was already pretty busted, but there was something else that confirmed that Bedrock's existence was broken.
Adaptation
He hadn't noticed it before due to how fast the fight ended, but after a series of tests, Osho was sure.
If Bedrock were exposed to something that could harm him, whether it be physical or magical attacks, his body would adapt to it.
Osho discovered this fact by complete accident, as he had just been doing some tests to see the durability of Bedrock's armor after consuming certain ores. He did so by using one device in the lab that was essentially just a laser with adjustable power.
It had done its job well enough at first. But after multiple trials, Osho realized that the damage caused while using the same output kept dropping. He'd been confused for a moment before he figured out what was happening, and needless to say, he was ecstatic when he realized what it was.
He did, however, discover that the adaptation wasn't permanent. At least, not unless Bedrock was exposed to something harmful over a considerably long period, as after waiting for a while, when Osho used the laser again, it cut through Bedrock's armor with the same efficiency as before.
Other than that, there were a few other things he found out, like his rapid growth, but that could easily be attributed to him being a newborn, so he was developing quickly.
Moreover, it was very, VERY hard to move Bedrock if he didn't want to be moved.
Osho had asked Gale and Bedrock to spar again, but this time, Gale just had to try and break through Bedrock's defenses while Bedrock needed to block as much as he could.
Needless to say, Bedrock would have died before he moved. As such, Osho didn't need to think too much when it came to his goal in their party.
He would be the tank, no doubt.
'I wonder how he would fare against Sugil in terms of raw defenses. Crystal vs Earth. Hm.' Osho smiled as his attention was brought to the present.
Someone was ringing his doorbell like they had beef with it, and it didn't take a genius to figure out that it was his friends.
Tomorrow would be the day they began their individual lectures, so Osho decided to call a bit of a group meeting before classes started.
Ignoring the constant ringing which he was certain was the result of Kurt's actions, he made his way to the front door, and when he opened it, sure enough, he saw everyone standing outside, and the three girls were staring at Kurt with annoyance while the boy looked too proud of himself to call it an accident.
"First of all, fuck you," He said pointedly at Kurt. "Secondly, come in." Osho moved out of the way and allowed them to enter.
Once they were inside, everyone made themselves comfortable as they all sat down.
Osho noted that they all seemed a little bit tired, so he guessed they must have been training.
'I haven't really spoken with any of them over the past couple of days. I should use this as an opportunity to find out what everyone has been up to.' He mused as he sat opposite them.
"I see you guys have been busy." Osho said with a smile. While they weren't doing it subconsciously, Osho's perception allowed him to sort of gauge their auras, and it's clear that this brief period served them all well.
"Naturally. I really wanna brag about everything I discovered about Venom, but I'll wait until we've said everything we wanna say." When Kurt said this, everyone stared at him.
"... You named your symbiotic Beast... Venom?" Sam asked incredulously.
"What are you gonna do? Sue me?" Kurt said smugly, and they all just sighed.
With that, their small meeting began.
