Chapter 424: Rock’s Hunch
It was already dark when Rain and Alexander arrived in Lamey Country. Following her father-in-law’s instructions, they headed straight to the hospital.
"What do you think is going on?" Rain asked as they walked through the quiet corridors toward Mrs. Summer Cartier’s private room.
Alexander shrugged. "We’ll find out soon. We’re here."
As they stepped inside, Rain’s heart clenched at the sight before her. Mrs. Summer lay motionless on the bed, tubes and monitors connected to her fragile body. The rhythmic beeping of the machines filled the heavy silence.
Rain bit her inner cheek, trying to suppress the wave of emotions crashing over her. She had always known Mrs. Summer as a lively, warm woman whose smile could brighten even the darkest days. Seeing her like this, so weak and unresponsive, felt like a cruel twist of fate.
"You’re here," Father Rock said, approaching them quickly. His expression was unreadable, but the weight in his voice told her everything she needed to know. He then turned to the man standing beside Arlan Cartier and instructed, "Call the doctor."
The man gave a small nod and promptly left.
"He’s my assistant, David," Arlan explained.
Rain greeted him politely, as did Alexander, before turning back to Father Rock.
