Chapter 339: How Much Longer
Rain woke up at dawn, her lips curling into a soft smile as she felt Alexander’s warmth beside her. His arm was wrapped securely around her, holding her close. She glanced at their position and frowned slightly, wondering if he was uncomfortable. Carefully, she shifted, slipping away from his embrace with delicate precision.
For a moment, she stood by the bed, gazing down at him. His features were relaxed in a way she rarely saw, serene and peaceful. A tender smile tugged at her lips. It wasn’t often she got to see him like this knowing he would wake up anytime, and it warmed her heart.
Noticing she was still in her business outfit from the night before, she decided to freshen up. Quietly, she grabbed one of her nightdresses, slipped into the bathroom, and took a quick shower. After brushing her teeth and drying her hair, she tiptoed back to bed, hoping to rejoin him without waking him up.
But as she climbed back under the covers, her movements accidentally stirred him awake. Alexander opened his eyes and blinked a few times, his gaze settling on Rain. "What time is it?" he asked, his voice low as he sat up in bed.
"It’s still early," she replied softly, smiling at him. "Go back to sleep."
He rubbed the back of his neck, glancing around the room. "I should go back to my bedroom," he murmured, swinging his legs to the edge of the bed as though to leave.
Before he could stand, Rain reached out and held his wrist gently. "But this is your bedroom, Alexander. Can you stay here instead?" Her voice was calm but earnest, her gaze locked on his. "I promise I’ll behave and won’t do anything to make you uncomfortable."
His eyes flicked to hers, then trailed down to her lips and lingered briefly on the thin fabric of her nightgown. He swallowed hard, a hint of hesitation crossing his face.
Rain immediately picked up on it and smiled, trying to ease his discomfort. "Okay, fine. I’ll wear pajamas! Just stay here and go back to sleep. I’ll change, alright?"
