Urban System in America

Chapter 222 - 221: Caught A Wild Woman

Rex didn’t go full action-movie mode. No sudden hero leap, no dramatic punch. Nah—he kept it real. He just stood there, ears wide open, heart pounding like a drumline.

He figured if they were still talking, there might be more to learn. Maybe they’d slip up. Maybe he’d catch something else useful. But after a minute or two,the conversation nosedived into useless territory. The guards started chatting about drinks, some party jokes, laughing about sneaking champagne behind the boss’s back.

Useless.

Rex took the hint. Time to bounce—quietly, carefully, and before someone turned that corner. Otherwise, there was a real risk of getting spotted, and he wasn’t ready to test his luck twice in one night.

He turned the recording off and slowly, cautiously, he began backing away, his movements deliberate and silent. He stuck close to the wall, hugging the edge of the shadows, and slipped into a nearby hallway. His heart still hammered in his chest, but he kept it simple. Quiet steps. Calm nerves. Just get out before anyone noticed.

One cool thing about these mega-mansions? Too damn big. Too many corridors. Too many doors. Normally a nightmare for guests trying to find the bathroom, but right now? It was working in his favor.

After a few turns that felt like a maze straight out of a horror game, he spotted a side door partially hidden behind a jungle of indoor plants. Jackpot.

He slipped through, pushed it open—and boom. Finally, Night air.

Fresh, crisp, real. The scent of damp grass and garden hedges hit him like a breath of freedom.

He stepped outside into the back garden, letting the cool air wrap around him like a sanity blanket.

Finally. A second to breathe.
