The Demon Lord Is An Angel

Chapter 340: *Star Aligns*

Star held on to Ferro’s book as they slipped into the woods, holding it behind his back as his tail swished back and forth.

Ferro wasn’t as sensitive to mana as the demon, but even he felt that there was a pressure to the place that was getting more intense as they approached the Djet.

They stopped at a glowing pond, which had blue depths but a milky-white coloration to its shore and the waters closest to them.

"Hmm, this looks like a good spot," the demon stretched, letting go of Ferro’s book in a way that sent it flying at him. The catkin caught it, thankfully losing no pages because the worn-out text was wrapped in string around the remains of its cover. "Honestly, I don’t know what you see in that garbage, you’re well beyond the basics within your limits..."

"Thinking you’re beyond the basics is just willful ignorance," Ferro quoted. It was one of the mystery writer’s many quips that helped him keep going when the math got very tough.

"Ugh, don’t say it like that. Now you sound like Maledict."

"Do I finally get to learn who Maledict is?" Ferro asked. Over the last... uncounted years... the name had come up whenever Star was stressed, which was more and more often as they got deeper into the Duat.

"Just an old enemy... one I may waste a wish on destroying, if the legends about that tower are true." Star turned with a smirk. "What would you waste your wish on?"

"You’ve asked me that a hundred times. I want to save my sister."

"And a hundred times you prove remarkably consistent... if boring. But here’s a question I haven’t asked: What if she doesn’t want to be saved?"

Ferro bit back a protest that was half-formed in his mouth. What if she didn’t...
