Chapter 3, An Encounter with Houtu
Bai Jin followed Wudang Saint towards the depths of the mountain range, walking and walking until they reached the edge of a cliff, watching the clouds churn below.
Bai Jin respectfully said: "Sister, do you have any instructions for me?"
Wudang Saint patted Bai Jin’s shoulder and chided: "We are all fellow disciples from the same sect, why so formal? Keep this up and your sister here will get angry, you know!"
Bai Jin scratched his head and said with a silly grin: "Alright."
Wudang Saint sat cross-legged on a green stone and said: "I remember your old home was something like this too, nestled within the clouds."
Bai Jin blinked, that was something related to his past life as the White Crane. What does that have to do with me, Bai Jin?
Bai Jin sat beside her, curiously asking: "Sister, why do you think Master took me as his disciple? My aptitude is not good, and compared to the two elder brothers and sister, the difference is like heaven and earth. I’m just an Outer Disciple after joining; I’m really puzzled why Master would take me in at that time?"
Wudang Saint looked at Bai Jin with an odd expression and said: "You don’t know?"
Bai Jin shook his head.
Holding back a smile, Wudang Saint said: "Master’s original intention of taking you in was to serve as his mount."
