Chapter 1239: The Yates Family Eldest Miss Truly Is Impressive
She actually started playing dirty.
Matthew Saxon’s two handsome brows knitted together, and a flicker of anger clouded his peach blossom eyes. "Scarlett Yates, do you have no self-respect at all?"
"Of course I have self-respect, but it depends on what I’m using it for." Scarlett let out a cold snort through her nose. "Matthew Saxon, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. You want to shoo me away so you can fool around with that little nurse, right? If I stay, I’ll ruin your good time."
"What nonsense are you spouting!" His brows furrowed tighter and his face instantly darkened.
In her eyes, was his taste really that bad?
Even if he did have that kind of thought, he wouldn’t be undiscriminating to that extent.
"I’m not talking nonsense!" The moment Scarlett got angry, the words just flew out. "If I hadn’t interrupted you last night, I bet the two of you would’ve ended up in bed. Matthew Saxon, you’d better give it up already. Since you’re very clear about where you stand right now, rein in that Young Master temper of yours. This isn’t the Saxon Family; you don’t get to do whatever you want here."
"Say that again." His expression turned stormy; his lips pressed into a thin line, and anger flashed in his slightly narrowed phoenix eyes.
"I’ll say it ten more times and it’ll still be the same. Stop pining after that little nurse. I’ll be honest with you, she won’t be staying in this hospital any longer. Once I go back, I’ll find a way to get her kicked out." On what grounds did he forbid her from coming to see him? On what grounds did he single her out for dislike?
If he didn’t want her taking care of him, then who did he want? That little nurse?
Thinking about what had happened when she went to buy breakfast, Scarlett was still fuming, like she’d been bitten by a dog for no reason at all.
"Miss Yates really is impressive."
After those few barbed remarks, when Matthew looked at her again, his gaze had turned several degrees colder.
He hooked his lips in a faint curve and let out a cold laugh. "I have to admit, your acting is pretty good. I almost fell for it."
"What did I lie to you about?" Scarlett’s fingers curled tight, anger also rising on her face.
"A few hours ago you were putting on a pitiful act in front of me, going on and on about how awful Noah Yates is. And now you’re already using your Miss Yates authority to drive people out. Someone who supposedly wants nothing to do with the Yates Family sure likes throwing the Yates Family’s weight around." When he finished, he gave a mocking curl of his lips, his eyes full of disdain.
"I... that’s because she provoked me first. She gets to run her mouth and slander people however she wants, but I’m not allowed to hit back?"
But Matthew no longer believed her. In his mind, everything she’d done before was just an act; this was her true colors finally coming out.
In the end she was nothing more than a spoiled, willful rich girl, no different from most of the women he knew. That poor-little-thing act she’d put on earlier had been so convincing he’d almost bought it.
"Miss Yates is always in the right, of course. Since you’re shameless enough to stay, there’s nothing I can do about it. If you want to stay, stay—just don’t blame me for having no manners later."
When he finished, he lowered his head to glance at the breakfast on the nightstand. His thin lips quirked, and he reached out, picked it up, plate and all, and tossed it straight into the trash can beside the bed.
Scarlett stared at him, dumbfounded.
He slowly lifted his head, his peach blossom eyes narrowing slightly as a dangerously seductive, almost demon-like smile curled at his lips. "Forgot to tell you—what I hate most are sandwiches and fried eggs."
