Chapter 1237: He Should Be Guarding Against Her
As long as she made the first move, then she’d be able to get most people on her side.
A rich heiress hitting someone—news like that only needed a bit of polishing and rewriting to stir up quite a wave of public opinion.
These days there were plenty of people who hated the rich; those struggling at the bottom of society especially couldn’t stand this kind of news. Once they saw it, it was like hitting their excitement trigger, and they’d definitely curse her out like a dog.
That way, her reputation would be ruined.
Her plan was perfect, but she hadn’t expected Scarlett Yates not to take the bait at all.
The little nurse’s scheme fell through. The more she thought about it, the angrier she got, and she actually started obsessing, feeling that no matter what, she had to smear Scarlett Yates.
--
When Scarlett Yates came back carrying breakfast, Matthew Saxon was already awake.
As she hunched over and gently pushed the door open, Matthew Saxon’s low, sexy voice sounded at the same time: "You went out?"
"You’re awake." A small smile immediately spread at the corners of Scarlett’s lips. Seeing him awake, she stopped tiptoeing around, straightened up, pushed the door wider, and strode in.
She lifted the breakfast bag in her hand and gave it a little shake, smiling as she said, "I went to buy breakfast. The cafeteria’s breakfast here is pretty good, it looks quite tasty. I got you a sandwich and a fried egg."
"But they’re not very hot anymore. I’ll pop them in the microwave for a bit later."
Besides being quiet and comfortable, the good thing about staying in the VIP Ward was that basically every household appliance you could want was available.
The kitchen was big, and the fridge was stocked with quite a bit of food. It was just a pity Scarlett Yates wasn’t much of a cook, or she could’ve made him breakfast herself.
"Why’d you go out so early?" Watching her walk in from outside with that beaming smile, Matthew Saxon’s feelings were a bit complicated.
The first time he’d seen her, he’d resisted her, even felt a bit of disgust.
But after just one night, looking at her again, she was much easier on the eyes.
Especially when he caught sight of that little face lit up with a bright smile, his mood inexplicably lifted.
Realizing his mood could be affected this easily, Matthew Saxon furrowed his brows again.
He didn’t like this feeling, not one bit.
"You were still asleep when I woke up. I checked the time and it was still early, so I went out to buy breakfast. Oh, and I didn’t ask you since I thought you were still sleeping—are the sandwich and fried egg okay? If you don’t want to eat this, I can go buy something else."
After putting the breakfast down, Scarlett Yates turned and went into the bathroom to get some hot water, then took out his cup and toothpaste.
She wrung out a washcloth and handed it to him. Matthew Saxon hesitated for a few seconds, then reached out and took it.
Once he finished washing his face, Scarlett handed him a toothbrush already squeezed with toothpaste. "Brush your teeth first, I’ll go heat up the breakfast."
As soon as Matthew Saxon took the toothbrush and cup, she hummed a little tune and went off to warm the food.
In no time, the smell of food was wafting through the air.
She was humming some unknown song, the tune cheerful. She didn’t sing well at all; compared to Alice Green she was way off, but Matthew Saxon damnably felt it actually sounded pretty nice.
He figured he must have been bewitched by that woman.
Otherwise, how could he wake up from one night’s sleep and find her more and more pleasing to the eye, and even think such an ordinary little song sounded good?
She was Noah Yates’s daughter, and Noah Yates had him under house arrest.
He ought to be on guard against her.
Who knew if the father and daughter were putting on a show together for him.
