Will the Aloof Billionaire Divorce Today?

Chapter 1228: Are We Really Married?

Matthew Saxon spoke with a hint of impatience in his voice, "I told you to leave."

He never had a good impression of the young nurse; the only reason he helped her before was his strong dislike for Scarlett Yates’s intrusion. Additionally, her cold demeanor and lecturing tone made him want to suppress her a little.

Though he indeed disliked Scarlett Yates barging in uninvited, he disliked even more the young nurse’s eager behavior.

The latter bothered him even more.

Without Matthew Saxon’s backing, the young nurse’s courage immediately faltered. How could she dare challenge Scarlett Yates further? She clenched her teeth and reluctantly got up to leave.

--

The room plunged into silence.

The young nurse had left quite a while ago, but neither Scarlett Yates nor Matthew Saxon spoke to break the silence. They looked at each other, and after a moment of gazing, Scarlett slowly walked over to the bed and sat down.

She noticed a lot of fruit on the table and casually picked one up to peel.

Despite her lowered head, she could still feel Matthew Saxon watching her.

He was still studying her.

Scarlett didn’t know exactly what he was examining. Ever since she told him they were married, he’d been watching her with a scrutinizing gaze.

Maybe he was trying to find what was special about her that justified their marriage.

They stayed silent for about four or five minutes until finally Matthew Saxon broke the silence, his voice devoid of emotion, asking, "Are we really married?"

Scarlett peeled the last bit of fruit skin and then handed the peeled apple to Matthew Saxon, "Yes, if you don’t believe it, you can ask George. He came here with me this time."

Matthew Saxon furrowed his brow and didn’t speak for a while.

"Want to eat something?" Scarlett shook the apple in her hand.

He shook his head, "You can eat it yourself."

"Matthew Saxon, are you feeling upset?" Scarlett saw that he didn’t even want to talk, and she suddenly felt depressed and a bit sad. "Do you really dislike me that much? I don’t know what I did wrong to make you so resistant to me."

Dislike?

Matthew Saxon couldn’t help but look at her again.

At this moment, she no longer appeared furious or stern, and she looked very different from when she first came in.

Her dark, shining eyes revealed a hint of grievance. Her lashes drooped, and her eye corners formed an innocent angle. Her voice was slightly husky and low, carrying a bit of melancholy.

She threw the peeled apple back onto the table.

"When I heard the news that you crashed, I thought I’d never see you again. But I couldn’t believe you really died like that because you promised me; you said you’d come back alive to see me. Later, as fate had it, someone saved you and told me you were with him, so George and I came along with him."

"When I saw you in the hospital, I was really, really happy, wholeheartedly thinking about being there when you woke up, and imagining how happy you’d be to see me when you opened your eyes."

"But now, you don’t know me anymore."

"See, you remember who you are; you remember George; maybe you even remember Alice Green. But you’ve forgotten me."
