Back to the 70s: My Childhood Sweetheart Spoils Me Rotten

Chapter 1342 - 1344

Knowing someone would help her with the chores, Gong Ruini was happily avoiding work.

Unlike Dai Limin, who is a masochist.

Gong Ruini, after eating her porridge and planning to read a book in bed, didn’t expect her eyelids to feel so heavy as soon as she lay down, quickly falling asleep.

Zhao Xuran entered the bedroom quietly with a plastic bag, unsurprisingly finding Gong Ruini sound asleep.

"Not up yet?" Zhao Xuran placed the food on the floor, then grabbed the thermos, noticing it felt lighter, indicating that Gong Ruini had eaten.

"She really can sleep." Zhao Xuran looked at the food on the floor, undecided about whether to wake her up or not.

Gong Ruini felt slightly breathless under some weight, "Get off."

Who else could act so presumptuously if not this rascal Zhao Xuran?

"Still tired?" Zhao Xuran saw the weariness on Gong Ruini’s face and felt genuinely apologetic.

Asking her if she’s tired now, Gong Ruini shot him a glare, "Why didn’t you hold back a little back then?"

Well, how could he have held back at the time? Zhao Xuran rubbed his nose, "Do you want to take a bath?"

"Would a bath solve anything?" Gong Ruini doubted the effectiveness of bathing, especially with him around; she really didn’t trust him.

What if his brain malfunctions again? It’s better to just lay down and regain strength.

The distrust in his wife’s eyes hurt Zhao Xuran, "I’m deeply hurt."

Hmph, he’s talking about feeling hurt to her? He even has the nerve to say that, making her roll over, unwilling to deal with him.

This guy has even learned to be dramatic now.

"You can be mad at me, but you can’t skip meals; that’s unhealthy." Zhao Xuran regretted listening to what Zhao Guangran said.

"Not hungry." She wasn’t hungry; after a big pot of porridge and lying down all day, of course, she wasn’t hungry.

"Not hungry?" Really? Just a little porridge, how could you not be hungry by now?

"Yeah, okay, I’m going to sleep." Gong Ruini really didn’t want to deal with him, or maybe she didn’t know how to talk to Zhao Xuran.

Going to sleep? Is she that tired? Zhao Xuran wanted to keep asking, but seeing his wife remaining silent despite his questions, he was helpless.

Thankfully, it’s summer, so it doesn’t matter if the food gets cold. He picked up the air conditioning remote to raise the temperature a bit.

He placed the food on the bedside table, then gently kissed Gong Ruini a few times.

Though he was reluctant to leave Gong Ruini, there was so much work to do below, and if he went down late, who knows what Zhao Guangran would think.

No choice but to reluctantly head downstairs, "Sleep well."

"I’ll take you out for a nice dinner tonight." Zhao Xuran had already asked Zhao Guangran where the nice restaurants were around here and planned to seize this opportunity for a good meal.

Thinking about it, since they came to the United States, they hadn’t had many chances to eat out properly.

Previously considering the whole family going out might terrify the Americans unless it was to a so-called buffet restaurant.

But after one try, the family protested, saying they didn’t like it much, so they opted for Chinese restaurants afterward.

These so-called Chinese restaurants had long been Americanized, taste-wise, making it hard for Cai Meina and the others to accept.

Hearing this, Gong Ruini shuddered; finally, after all these days in the United States, there’s a chance to eat well, not easy at all.

But there’s something peculiar, like it’s a meal earned through exchange.

After this thought crossed her mind, Gong Ruini fell asleep again, not dwelling on the previous thoughts.

With her mind at ease, the temperature in the room just right, and her recent exhaustion, Gong Ruini seized the opportunity to have a good sleep.

This sleep was so comfortable, she wondered if she’d have such an opportunity again tomorrow. Uncertain, she decided to take advantage of it now.

The last thought before Gong Ruini fell asleep was to nap a bit, then get up and soak in the tub.

Since Zhao Xuran promised to take her out for a nice meal at what should be a decent restaurant, she couldn’t look disheveled, needing to spruce up and be in good spirits.

At the very least, she couldn’t look dispirited while dining out; that would be embarrassing.

Gong Ruini’s idea was solid, but upon waking, she found the sun wasn’t as dazzling anymore.

"Wow, it’s not too late, is it?" Gong Ruini quickly got up, grabbed the watch from the nightstand to check the time.

"Ahhh." Gong Ruini dashed into the bathroom, turned on the hot water, intending to fill the bathtub halfway.

Then she rushed back to the bedroom, seeing the so-called lunch on the nightstand.

With her stomach growling, Gong Ruini found herself in a dilemma; to eat or not to eat.

If she eats now, what about dinner? Should she pretend to be refined and eat just a little?

That would scare Zhao Xuran away; normally, during a date, one would eat lightly to avoid scaring the other with a big appetite.

But pretending to be refined wouldn’t work on Gong Ruini and Zhao Xuran; knowing each other too well, any insincerity would raise suspicion. The immediate reaction would be wondering if she’s unwell.

However, not eating would mean Zhao Xuran finding the untouched food and getting mad; Gong Ruini could imagine an angry Zhao Xuran.

Maybe he’d scold her harshly, turning the situation around to his advantage.

"What if I throw it away?" Gong Ruini considered this option after much thought.

"Can’t throw it away, nowhere to discard it." We’re civilized people and shouldn’t engage in uncivilized acts. Throwing objects from heights is absolutely a no-no.

So what now? "Maybe eat a little, then do some yoga before he’s back?" Gong Ruini was indeed hungry.

Especially with the prospect of a grand dinner, what if Zhao Guangran decided to block their outing?

Busy lately, Zhao Guangran’s ill temper is somewhat excusable, but he shows zero respect for the elderly or concern for the young, the epitome of authoritarianism.

While the tub filled, Gong Ruini quickly finished half of her lunch, patting her now full belly, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Such a pig, need to exercise properly." Gong Ruini lamented her appetite while regretting it.

For Zhao Xuran to call it a grand meal, it surely is, and now with a full stomach, how much more could she eat?

"Hope it’s not top-tier cuisine, or I’ll cry." Gong Ruini prayed silently, fearing deep regret.

Zhao Xuran finally completed the tasks Zhao Guangran set for him, hurrying home upstairs.

"Hey, bro, you’re leaving us behind?" Zhao Guangran aimed to hold Zhao Xuran for a chat, perhaps discussing their dinner plans.

Breakfast was compromised already, lunch was even more casual, thanks to Zhao Xuran buying extra buns and such for breakfast.

Surely he wouldn’t neglect dinner too? They’d been busy all day; without a good meal, how could they endure?
