In the enchantment, what awaits the enemies was Mazuru standing in his domain and fighting them while using his home-field advantage.
Now coming back to the battle, with Mazuru Zanpakuto's ability, he slashed out countless crimson slashes which overlapped and engulfed Kensei, even though Kensei swung the dagger-like Zanpakuto in his hand at a very fast speed, and surrounded himself with the violent wind but they were overwhelmed when met with the crimson slash, Mazuru did not win with quality, but he just simply overwhelmed his opponent with quantity.
If Mazuru focused on quality of his attack then it would be a completely different case.
Back then in the forest of Menos Grande, he had already fought Nnoitra who had reached the peak of Adjuchas in power and was almost comparable to a Vasto-Lorde, he was almost ready to be arrancarized and become one of the Espada like in the original book but still he was killed by Mazuru.
Of course, Kensei's strength was obviously much stronger than that of Nnoitra at that time, but being much stronger doesn't mean that he had a way to deal with Mazuru.
