Chapter 305: Ambush (2)
The eerie glow of two full moons enveloped the forest. Their silver light filtered through the dense canopy, casting long, twisted shadows on the ground.
In a clearing near the floor gate, a group of seven Olympian guards had set up camp. They were waiting for anyone who might emerge from the second level, specifically hoping to catch Adrian before he could slip past them.
It had been over a week since Adrian had entered the maze of the second floor. The guards, confident that no one could survive that long in such a perilous environment, had grown complacent and thought they were wasting their time waiting for a dead man.
The officer on night duty, a burly man named Hector, leaned against a tree on top of a branch, struggling to keep his eyes open. His companions were similarly relaxed, some chatting quietly, others dozing by the fire.
"He’s definitely dead by now," one guard muttered, poking at the fire with a stick. "No one lasts that long in the maze."
"Yeah," another agreed. "But orders are orders. We stay until we get the call to move. You know how lord Bellerophon can be-"
"Oi! Not so loud! Do you want to die?"
While the others bickered, the officer yawned and finally fell asleep, his head drooping sideways. The surrounding forest was silent except for the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant hoot of an owl or some other beast.
Suddenly, Hector’s eyes snapped open. The next thing he saw was a figure charged out of the floor gate. It was Adrian. He moved with the speed and ferocity of a beast, his new horns shining in the moonlight.
In a single, devastating move, Adrian unleashed his true damage charge attack. The energy crackled around him, and within moments, six Olympian guards lay dead around the campfire. Adrian’s attack had been so quick and lethal that they hadn’t even had a chance to draw their weapons.
The officer tried to get away and report it to the superiors. However, the rustling of leaves gave him away.
