Chapter 160: Secrets Revealed (2)
After chatting a while longer and learning about the Church and the newly installed defences, Adrian was about to end their little get-together. But he had a final question to ask of Bellion.
"What about me?" Adrian mumbled. "Who gave you the contract to kill me?"
"You know I can’t tell you that."
Adrian was surprised to hear those words coming out of Bellion’s mouth. After ensuring Bellion was still under his control, Adrian asked him again, but Bellion’s response remained the same.
Even under Adrian’s influence, Bellion wasn’t going to abandon his ’morals’ as an assassin and leak his client’s name. But there were ways to say things without uttering them, and Adrian’s control compelled Bellion to find a way to convey the truth, which he did.
"I can’t tell you the names, but I can tell you this," Bellion replied. "There were more the seven contracts offered to us all demanding your death. Five came from the Church, and the other two... were private requests from people you already know."
Adrian didn’t know how to react to that news. All along, he thought only one person wanted him gone, but now he realised there were many who wished the same.
He thought he had been kind and just to everyone, but it appeared not everyone thought the same of him and wanted him dead.
"Vincent, or someone related to him, has to be one of the two clients that I know of," Adrian mumbled. "As for the contracts from the Church, I don’t care about those. But who is the other client?"
