Chapter 152: Storming The Citadel (2)
Upon walking out of the armoury, the group stumbled upon the Nexarian Adrian had killed moments ago. While the Banurs ignored the corpse, Amelia and Sophia exchanged glances before staring at Adrian’s back.
"Killing without a second thought," Sophia murmured so only Amelia could hear her. "...he’s changed."
"Can you blame him?" Amelia replied in a cold tone. "I felt it when we sparred yesterday. It’s true Adrian has changed a lot, but he still cares about us and our opinions. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have decided to let those Tulkas go."
"Yeah..." Sophia sighed. "That reminds me, what did you decide to do with them?"
"Turned them into labourers who’d replace the farm animals. Just because I didn’t want to kill them doesn’t mean I’d be kind to them."
"I thought you’d do something much worse, considering what they did to you," Sophia raised an eyebrow, surprised by Amelia’s leniency.
"You know me well," Amelia replied with a straight face, but the venom in her voice conveyed her true intentions. "I’ll starve them. Give them just enough food to ensure they live a long and miserable life."
Sophia nodded before looking forward. Adrian, who always used to walk behind her, was now leading a charge against people they thought were their friends.
In just a few months, everything had changed. Friends became enemies, and their faith in each other was shaken. Some of her friends didn’t survive, while others suffered because of one person’s greed. But Sophia was grateful that those she cherished were still by her side.
