Chapter 74: [Weekly Bonus - 1/2] Gluttonous Commander (2)
After the encounter with Tulka tribesmen, none of the soldiers dared to irk Malachi, for they knew the punishment. Still, a few of them weren’t lucky enough and died at the hands of their commander and their body devoured by his sword.
Some would wonder why a commander would target his own people. The answer was simple: Malachi didn’t care about anyone but himself. That was why he joined the exiled corpse in the first place.
The higher-ups were only bothered with the results and wouldn’t question his methods as long as they performed to their expectations. No one would blink an eye even if Malachi absorbed the entire force, as they were criminals, nothing more or nothing less.
However, he knew the higher-ups had evidence of his ’atrocities’ and wouldn’t hesitate to use them if he ever messed up. This was one more reason why Malachi trusted only himself.
No one else would bother about his life, just like he didn’t care about the many people that went ’Missing in action’ under his leadership.
However, the tension of the mission wasn’t the only reason why he was pissed. He didn’t like the tone the Tulka tribe leader had used with him, nor how he underestimated him.
But Malachi couldn’t do anything except bite his tongue and leave. The Tulka tribe had been a crucial ally for the Nexarians and would continue to be one as long as the Banurs were around.
If he made a wrong move against them, it would’ve invited an execution squad to hunt him down. After all, he was as replaceable to the higher-ups as the ones beneath him were to him.
"The day Banurs die, your downfall starts," Malachi growled, remembering the leader’s arrogant demeanour. "Remember my words, you savage scum. Giving us this map is the only right thing you’ve accomplished in your entire life."
