Chapter 19: Hindsight
At the Zhonghai Train Station, in the Railway Public Security Bureau office, Liu Zhen had already calmed down. He was sitting on a bench in a corner, frowning, deep in thought.
In front of him, he had laid out all the contents of his backpack: a laptop, a tablet, a phone, spare clothes, and even a few packs of instant noodles and snacks. The acceptance letter, registration certificate, and even a copy of his ID were there, but the actual ID card was missing.
He clearly remembered that he had his ID card before he sat down. So why did it suddenly disappear when they were conducting the inspection?
Where could it have gone?
Liu Zhen was filled with bewilderment. He had excellent habits in his daily life, especially when it came to essential travel documents like his ID card. He always kept them in designated places, making him confident and prepared at all times.
He recalled that his train ticket and ID card were together, but now only the ID card was missing. Why?
An officer entered the room, placing a cup of water in front of Liu Zhen.
The officer said, "Liu Zhen, we contacted your parents and confirmed your identity. This is just a routine procedure. If your travel plans are affected, we can compensate you."
Liu Zhen wasn't paying full attention to the officer's words, as he already knew the outcome.
He shook his head absently, indicating that he was fine.
The officer had more to say, but seeing Liu Zhen's lack of response, he decided not to continue.
