Nolan sat cross-legged at the center of his hotel room, fingers intertwined in a mystic mudra, lips whispering an incantation passed down by the Ancient One herself.
And then it happened.
His body suddenly felt weightless, like drifting through warm air. Everything in the room was exactly as it had been: the spacious suite, the soft lamplight, the bed.
Wanda still lay fast asleep beside him, utterly drained after last night.
Well, after taking three hundred tons of raw impact force, that was understandable. Good thing Nolan had manipulated his psionic field and magnetic control to disperse the energy. Otherwise, even a Scarlet Witch wouldn’t have walked away intact.
But now... Nolan was floating literally.
He looked down and saw his own body still seated upright, fingers curled around the spellbook, eyes closed. Breathing faint. Peaceful.
His soul had left his body.
That realization hit hard. He waved his hand experimentally but his fingers passed right through the book.
He had become incorporeal. Pure consciousness.
