Chapter 93: [93] Interest Accumulating
October 7, 1:57pm
The bus pulled into the GGA facility’s entrance, passing under an imposing security gate adorned with the Global Gate Authority’s emblem—a stylized gate within a triangle. Two armed guards in black uniforms waved them through after Professor Valdez showed her identification.
Xavier pressed his forehead against the cool window glass as they drove past a series of low concrete buildings with minimal windows. The compound had a military vibe that reminded him of certain "black sites" he’d heard about in his former life. The comparison didn’t ease his growing discomfort about this excursion.
"Everyone, gather your belongings," Professor Valdez called out as the bus slowed. "Leave nothing on the seats. This facility operates under strict security protocols."
Beside him, Naomi was already packing her tablet into a sleek leather bag. Xavier noted how her eyes scanned each section of the facility they passed, cataloging details. Not just a social climber, then. She had situational awareness.
The bus stopped beside a wide concrete platform where three individuals in GGA uniforms waited. The gray uniforms bore red shoulder patches with the letters "FRO" beneath the GGA emblem.
"Field Research Operations," Naomi murmured, following Xavier’s gaze. "The practical division, not the research nerds."
Xavier raised an eyebrow. "You know a lot about GGA divisions."
"My uncle worked for them before joining White Wolf." She shrugged. "Family dinner conversations."
