Chapter 51: [51] Cream Filling
Xavier pushed open the apartment door, balancing a pink bakery box in one hand.
Calypso swept past him. "I’ll take that."
Her pink eyes remained fixed on the pastries as she opened the box on the kitchen counter, deliberately avoiding looking at Xavier. The cool silence between them had persisted since they’d left the bakery, where the blonde cashier had giggled at Xavier’s jokes and slipped two extra pastries into their order.
Xavier tossed his keys onto the counter and shrugged off his blazer. "You’re still mad."
"I’m not mad," Calypso said, stabbing a profiterole with her finger. Cream oozed out the side. "Gods don’t get mad over trivial mortal flirtations."
"So you’re murdering that pastry for fun?"
Calypso stuffed the entire cream puff into her mouth, cheeks bulging. "I’m enjoying my dinner," she mumbled through the food.
Xavier grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and dropped onto the couch. He’d seen enough moody women in his previous life to know when to push and when to retreat.
This was definitely retreat territory.
"Suit yourself. I’ve got work to do anyway." He reached for the remote and switched on the television, flipping through channels until he found Gate Break.
"—absolutely unacceptable for D-rank hunters to attempt even a low-tier-two gate without proper oversight. The regulations exist for a reason, people!"
