Chapter 27: A Deadly Choice: Save Her or Stay Hidden
Alex didn't jump down instantly. He wanted to—but he controlled himself.
Because something was chasing their goddess... ahem, the girl.
Rina, who was watching from above, covered her mouth with a gasp. Her voice trembled as she whispered, "Selene..." Without hesitation, she began untying the rope tied around her waist, ready to climb down.
Alex grabbed her wrist and shook his head. "No," he mouthed, then pointed toward the ground.
A monster slithered through the underbrush. Its eyes glowed a sickly green, with a vertical abyss-like slit at the center. Its scaled body was over four meters long and a meter thick, sliding across the forest floor like a nightmare brought to life. It was chasing Selene.
Selene's thoughts raced, each one more desperate than the last: I can't walk anymore. I'm already poisoned. If I keep running, it'll spread through my body. I froze the area near my thigh to slow it down, but... it's still spreading.
I have only one option—kill the monster and then deal with the poison.
She turned and conjured two sharp ice spikes, hurling them with all her strength.
The creature flinched—barely. They only left faint scratches on its obsidian-scaled skin.
Fear flooded Alex's and Rina's faces.
"This... this can't be..." Rina muttered, her eyes wide in disbelief. "That's a B-rank monster."
