Chapter 75: The Results
Thunder exploded like a cannon right above them, and a giant spear of lightning descended upon the Great Storm Tree. It struck the upper canopy like a divine hammer, setting the sky ablaze with blue fire.
The impact shook the earth. The entire forest lit up in an instant, brighter than day.
Kael felt it, the wild energy surging down the tree, cascading through its veins, bursting down to the roots.
But not all of it went to the tree.
Some of it, like a curious child, strayed.
It leapt to Kael’s construct—his little makeshift rod of root and wood—and it struck.
The lightning arced.
It entered the wood, danced through his hands, and burst downward into the root buried beneath him.
Kael screamed as his body convulsed from the surge. He had almost forgotten about the pain he experienced from the assimilation of Draven’s mana, and this lightning did the job of reminding him.
Every muscle in his body tensed, his heart skipped a beat, and sparks sprayed from his fingertips. His feet dug into the earth, boots nearly melting from the discharge.
And then, just as suddenly as it came, it was gone.
