Chapter 64: Beasts of the forest
"When they were desperate they used me as a tool," Veira murmured, resting the instrument lightly against the table. Turning towards Gerard who stood there listening to every word.
"They were desperate, losing to the enemy so they had to make a deal with the devil," She spat, her face grimacing at the memory of it, "It blinded them, they wanted power, so i gave it to them,"
"But in the face of their lives hanging before them, they are cowardly, screaming as I slit the rubbery barrier that holds all those sensitive bits that keeps us alive~" She took her gloves off, the pair hitting the table with a soft thud.
"Did you know, among all the races on this god forsaken planet we are the only ones that can survive being cut open like that, some longer than others," She laughed, "So then with that knowledge I wondered, what would happen if I tweak this– moved this, or maybe..."
She tapped against her skull, her smile widened, manic as if she herself had lost all sight of her mind. "Experimenting with the brain, the very thing that holds us back,"
"Of course, most wouldn’t survive that, but you all are different," Veira walked up to Gerard, her hands playfully behind her back as she looked up to him, his gaze dropping down to her level with a more indifferent gaze despite her words.
"’You all’?" He quoted,
"Yeah~ You, Freya, Lailla..." She listed off, her gaze to the ceiling as she recalled all the names from thought. "You all survived my cruelty, and you’re now reborn,"
Her hands reached up to cup his face, her hands surprisingly gentle despite her hardships, "As my very own creations..."
