Upon hearing Erhu’s words, Lin Yue felt a bit better, thinking to herself that Erhu had become increasingly skilled at coaxing people. However, she wasn’t going to let this issue go lightly just because of a few sweet words. She knew how she felt when she unexpectedly discovered that Erhu had lied to her.
"Confess what? Who believes you! That’s what you men are like, always saying nice things to coax people, full of lies, not a single word true. If it weren’t for me discovering it myself today, you were planning to keep lying to me forever, weren’t you."
Erhu wrapped her in his arms, ignoring his wife’s slight struggle. "I swear, wife, I didn’t tell you because I was afraid you’d overthink it. Some things should stay between men; women don’t need to know about them."
In truth, Lin Yue wasn’t very angry anymore. After Erhu’s explanation, she became even more curious, though she still acted upset. "Then tell me, what did you do today? If there’s a shred of falsehood, don’t expect me to ever trust you again."
"Do you really want to know?" Erhu hadn’t yet understood his wife. Seeing her like this, he knew what she was thinking and weighed his words carefully in his mind.
Lin Yue’s eyes widened. "Nonsense, just tell me! It’s better to come clean than resist. What on earth were you doing today, and why did you lie to me?"
"Well, it’s no big deal to tell you. Actually, it does have something to do with you. Jiang Wenshu had asked me to meet him at a restaurant in town. Then we took care of some other business. I didn’t want you to worry about it, so I fibbed. Little did I know that my wife is so clever, and you saw right through my lie." Erhu said, rationalizing that he hadn’t really lied to his wife, as Jiang Wenshu did ask to meet him, though he dismissed him quickly.
