Chapter 111 - 109 Building a House
They had just finished building the workers’ quarters, and with experience this time, they built the houses in three rows forming a quadrangular courtyard structure, arranged in a square. All of which were two-story buildings, with two rows on either side and one row in the middle, making three rows in total. Each floor had rooms, amounting to dozens of rooms that were relatively uniform in size.
There was a dedicated water room in the front and back middle, with both hot and cold water, and equipped with washing machines and shower rooms.
Outside the water room, there was a terrace and clothes racks for drying clothes, which were conveniently placed and included a dryer as part of the comprehensive facilities.
Each bedroom had its own toilet and shower room—you could use them however you wanted. If you didn’t like washing in your room because it felt too damp, you could go to the water room where the water flow was stronger and washing felt more refreshing.
These three rows of houses were actually gender-segregated, with the middle considered for supervisors’ residence. In the future, it was planned that high-level superpower users like Shi Lei and their relatives would live in the central main building.
In the courtyard, three rooms were built to function as a kitchen, each as big as a dining hall, sufficient for cooking and dining; the freezers used were commercial-sized, and everything was modernized.
"So many lice you don’t itch, so many debts you don’t worry" — since the money was already spent to this extent, and the construction was done, it was better to do it well in one go. It was more cost-effective than feeling unsatisfied later, having not enough space to live, and having to spend money to rebuild under higher costs and inconvenience.
The equipment inside was also complete. As the weather grew warmer and everything dried, people could move in, which made commuting to and from the worksite more convenient, especially since No.9 Farm was quite far from No.7 Farm and traveling back and forth was too time-consuming.
The remaining people needed to build the boundary walls and increase the electric grid to prevent mutant animals from coming over.
Gao Wenbin established a public service point at No.9 Farm for recruiting long-term and temporary workers, as there were not enough hands for all the work.
