Chapter 011 - Comparison is the Thief of Joy
Yan Yu felt a twinge of envy welling up in her eyes.
That wild boar weighed a good 100 kg, and it was all meat. What a feast! Still, she knew there was no point in comparing. Bear was a hunter who’d even taken down a black bear before. Li Yuan, on the other hand, had once been chased by a wild boar so badly he was laid up in bed for days. When it came to hunting skills, there was simply no contest.
Feeling a bit sour, Yan Yu said, “Look at Bear.. He's so bold and direct. He just went ahead and pulled together a whole crew to join him. Now, he’s become a big name in Little Ink Village, someone who can go toe-to-toe with the Qian Family.”
Hearing that, Li Yuan got annoyed. “Then go marry him.”
Yan Yu froze, gave him a pinch, and snapped, “I’m Yan Yu, not some fickle flirt. I’m with you. I’m not about to chase after anyone else.”
She huffed and stormed off, sitting by herself in a corner with her back to him. Li Yuan followed and sat down next to her. But as soon as he did, she scooted away. He slid closer, and she inched away again.
Finally, he said gently, “Your makeup is still on. Getting this worked up won’t do any favors for your looks.”
“Ugh...” Yan Yu suddenly flung herself onto the bed and burst into tears. “You’re the one who said I was thinking of other men... then you turned around and blamed me...”
She sobbed so hard her shoulders shook. Li Yuan hadn’t expected such an intense reaction. He inched closer and took her hand. She made no move to pull away.
“Yan Yu?” he called softly. She kept her face buried in the covers, not saying a word. After calling her a few more times to no response, Li Yuan finally said, “If you really want pork, give me some time. I’ll hunt a wild boar myself.”
“You’re all talk,” Yan Yu muttered, “like I don’t know you just got lucky with that pheasant...”
But right after she said it, she regretted it. Sitting up with tears still glistening on her cheeks, she whispered, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. I was just mad... You're steady and reliable, much better than other men.”
