"I admit I don’t know why, but somehow I can’t seem to like Xia Xin as purely as I like the other three daughters-in-law. I always feel she’s too perfect, not real enough. Do you think this could be because we haven’t spent enough time together?"
After some thought, Lu Yun decided to share her true feelings with Shitou. She frowned, "Sanbao usually stays here for a few years and rarely returns to Earth. Plus, communication isn’t easy. It takes at least half a month for a round of messages. We can’t have instant messaging, and we can’t keep in touch often unless it’s something important."
"We can’t be with him all the time, and if we also interfere with his choice of a wife, insisting that he must marry someone I really like, that would be unfair to him. So as long as it’s someone he likes, regardless of whether I like her, I must like her too."
Lu Yun sighed. All four of her sons were filial, strangely enough, while other people’s kids all had rebellious phases, not one of hers did. She was well aware that if she spoke up, Pei Sen would definitely feel awkward. She couldn’t be so selfish; his life was his own, and even though he was her son, she had no plans to interfere too much in his life choices.
Even if there were regrets, she had to give her children the right to regret, didn’t she?
Upon hearing this, Shitou nodded and didn’t say much more. Privately, however, he still approached Pei Sen, and father and son had a detailed conversation:
"That Xia Xin, are you serious about her, especially like her, as in she’s the only one for you?"
"Well, I’m about the right age, and just happened to meet someone quite suitable. It’s rare to find someone who knows the bigger picture and when to advance or retreat, and who isn’t clingy at all." Pei Sen saw Shitou looking serious, so he quickly straightened up and with a look of realization said, "Is it that Mom doesn’t like her?"
