Chapter 457 - 439: Show Off (Two in One - )_3
Ye Man’s mother chuckled, not taking Xiu Juan’s words seriously at all. "Before, Xiaoman felt that her relationship with her boyfriend hadn’t been confirmed, and stubbornly refused to bring him home to meet us; I was really worried. But look, this morning the two of them went out to pick out rings and they’ll have to go shopping for other things this afternoon. Next, they’ll need to take wedding photos..."
"Oh my, the wedding is in just over twenty days, and there’s still so much to do. I told them it’s not necessary to come all the way back just for lunch, they could just eat out and save time. But, both of them didn’t mind the trouble, said they have a car, coming back for a meal is no hassle at all."
"You, what am I going to do with you?" Xiu Juan couldn’t help but give Ye Man’s mother a look as if she were seeing a fool. But she quickly composed herself, her expression turning to one of schadenfreude as if struck by a thought.
"It seems your future son-in-law is not bad at all. I remember Chen Yuegui’s son-in-law, I heard he only visited their family once before the wedding, and that single time was during Chen Yuegui’s fiftieth birthday. Sure, he showed his face to give them face, but with so many relatives there, he acted all high and mighty. He dropped off his gift, and in less than ten minutes, without picking up a single chopstick or drinking a glass of wine, he made his excuses and said he had to leave."
Xiu Juan snorted in derision. What use is a wealthy son-in-law if he looks down on his wife’s family? She changed the subject, seemingly concerned, as she asked Ye Man’s mother, "So, it’s really quite flattering that your future son-in-law is willing to come over for a meal. But why rush the wedding date? How long have they known each other? Take it easy with the preparations. A once in a lifetime event, how can you rush through it?"
"Who said we’re rushing? The two of them have been dating for over three years."
Ye Man’s mother was taken aback, a lump of air stuck in her throat. Although Xiu Juan spoke of someone else’s son-in-law, she couldn’t help but think it was a veiled reference to their own soon-to-be son-in-law. Remembering how the in-laws had refused to stay for lunch, she couldn’t shake off a sudden unease, and her thoughts began to spiral.
But what if her worries were true? She dared not guarantee in front of Xiu Juan how their future son-in-law would behave. After all, he comes from a wealthy family, who knows if he might have a temper in private? She’d hate for that to be taken out on her own daughter.
