Gu Meng truly cared about Jiang Xiuwan; he had pursued her with the goal of marriage in mind.
Upon arriving in Capital City and hearing about Lu Yun’s fainting, his thoughts were torn between concern for Lu Yun and remembering the prearranged meeting time with Xiuwan, which agonized him.
He had considered sneaking out to see her and explain things but was afraid it might lead to misunderstandings. He feared that people would not only think he was in the mood for love during such a time but also that it would reflect poorly on Jiang Xiuwan.
The last thing he wanted was for his parents and relatives to develop a dislike for Xiuwan, a loss-making deal that Gu Meng would never want to make.
"Xiaoyun fainted? How could this happen when she was fine? What’s the situation now?" Jiang Xiuwan was shocked, then, frustrated, she slapped Gu Meng, "And you’re still running around, still planning on going out to have fun?"
