In the following days, John Brown accompanied Charlotte at home, and Emily Bailey often came over. In the evenings, Emma Campbell was there too, so Charlotte never felt lonely and gradually began to emerge from the grief of losing her parents. Although she couldn’t return to her carefree self as before, at least her smiles were no longer so forced. However, she still couldn’t be left alone; otherwise, her emotions would take a turn for the worse.

Even with the two families combining forces, the cost of Seventy Thousand Dollars was still a challenge for them. However, they all saw the company’s potential, and the price was indeed a bargain, so everyone felt quite pleased.

Charlotte handed over the Seventy Thousand Dollars she received directly to John Brown, who also accepted the money. Now, he was practically Charlotte’s guardian, even though it wasn’t yet official by law. Since Charlotte needed his care, he had to take responsibility for her. For a young girl to hold too much money wasn’t ideal, so managing it for her seemed only natural.

However, John Brown transferred all the money to Emma Campbell. In their little household, Emma managed the finances. Charlotte would need to ask Emma for funds if she wanted to use any of the money, and Charlotte had no objections to this arrangement.

In these past few days of staying with Charlotte, John Brown had only received a few calls from Helen Wilson and no other phone calls at all. This struck him as rather surprising.

He ran into Gina Lopez twice during this time. Gina maintained a cold demeanor, indifferent to him. If she didn’t call him, so be it. As for Emily Lopez, while their relationship was once close—perhaps even ambiguous—Gina Lopez’s determination to leave him meant Emily Lopez not reaching out was unsurprising.

But Melody Yoody hadn’t called either, and Sarah Utah hadn’t made a single concerned phone call. This was unusual.
