John Brown came back from grocery shopping, and Sarah Grandy immediately burst out laughing, while Little Grace’s face turned bright red in an instant. When the two girls were together, they naturally acted without restraint, but the topic they had just discussed involved John Brown, a grown man. So upon seeing him, Little Grace couldn’t help but blush.
John had no idea what kind of topic the two girls had been discussing earlier and asked with a smile, "What were you talking about? You both seem so happy."
"Uncle, Little Grace and I just made a bet! We..." Sarah started to exclaim excitedly but didn’t finish her sentence before Little Grace hurriedly interrupted, saying, "We were just joking around." Then, she pulled Sarah off to the side.
"Little Grace, what’s going on? Are you admitting defeat already?"
"I..." Little Grace straightened her back, initially wanting to say something defiant. However, after glancing at John, her courage vanished instantly. She pouted and said, "Fine, I admit I lost."
"Haha... then hurry up and bark like a dog." Sarah teased gleefully, shaking her head with pride.
"I’ll do it, but you can’t tell anyone about our bet!"
"Alright, I promise," Sarah replied cheerfully, though it was apparent she wasn’t being entirely sincere.
Under Sarah’s urging, Little Grace reluctantly imitated a dog’s bark three times. Her voice was so crisp that, even when mimicking a dog, it sounded lovely. John wasn’t interested in the bet between the two girls. As long as Sarah felt happy and joyful instead of sad, that was worth more than anything.
It was getting late, so John started cooking dinner, and soon, the aroma wafted out of the kitchen. Little Grace wasn’t expecting much from John’s cooking, but smelling the fragrance, she exclaimed in surprise, "Sarah, your uncle’s cooking smells amazing!"
Sarah, upon hearing this, became even more smug and said, "Of course! My uncle’s cooking skills are top-notch. Even a five-star restaurant wouldn’t compare. Once you’ve tasted it, I guarantee you’ll keep coming back here for dinner."
