John Brown and his group were taken into the police car. Given their abilities, these officers clearly couldn’t do much to them, but fighting the police outright wasn’t an option either—that would make them far too conspicuous.
John Brown and his group were brought to the precinct. Quite a few people had been caught as well. For now, John Brown and his friends hadn’t given a statement and were locked up in the same room as Martin Miller and his group.
"Hey, boss, this is your turf. You handle it," Martin said with a cheeky grin, puffing on a cigarette.
John Brown replied nonchalantly, "Just a fine, right?"
Martin smirked mischievously. "For a few of us, sure, a fine will do. But you’re a YODC City local. Won’t they insist on having your wife come pick you up?"
John’s face immediately darkened. As Martin pointed out, this was a standard move by the police when arresting someone for solicitation. If not the wife, then calling Gina Lopez would be unavoidable—and that would be utterly humiliating.
"Get us out of here, quick. Honestly, you invited us out, and yet we still managed to get nabbed by the cops. How embarrassing can you get?" Martin continued teasing John.
John rolled his eyes, pulled out his phone, and called Sunny Nguyen. Timing-wise, she seemed the most suitable person to bail them out.
But Sunny wasn’t picking up. After some thought, John realized there were calls he absolutely couldn’t make—to Gina Lopez or Emily Lopez, to YODC City’s Emily Jenkins, and certainly not to Lucy Campbell—not a chance. That would be unthinkably embarrassing.
Calling Emma Campbell wasn’t an option either. While Emma wouldn’t blame him, this incident would undoubtedly tank her perception of him. That couldn’t happen.
Then there was Helen Wilson—if she found out he was caught in a solicitation scenario, she’d surely mock him for the rest of his life. A total no-go.
