The Supreme Soldier in the City

James and the others had already gotten into the car by this time, with Gina driving. James helped Emily Lopez into the back, and whether she was truly drunk or just pretending, she suddenly pulled James to the back with her.

Left with no choice, James sat in the back with Emily Lopez, who then leaned sideways onto James’s lap, pouting and saying, "Brother-in-law, my head hurts so much. Can you rub it for me?"

Gina turned her head and frowned, saying, "Sit properly. You’re a grown girl, lying on your brother-in-law’s lap; what does that look like?"

Emily Lopez replied playfully, "I helped you catch your brother-in-law, can’t I borrow him for a bit? You’re such a stingy ghost."

"You..." Gina was at a loss for words, and glanced at James somewhat guiltily. Being with James, she always felt as if she had tricked him into coming here.

James also felt a headache internally, but showing hesitation now would only make Gina overthink. Smiling, he said, "Alright, Emily drank quite a bit, don’t scold her; I’ll rub her head, and you focus on driving."

Emily Lopez immediately said, "Brother-in-law is the best," and then contently closed her eyes.

Seeing that Emily Lopez was behaving, Gina said no more, started the car, and from time to time, glanced at the two through the rearview mirror. Seeing James properly massaging Emily Lopez’s head, she stopped worrying and frowned, "The man we saw earlier looked like Christopher Taylor. Wasn’t his deputy county chief position taken down? How did he show up here again?"

While massaging Emily’s head, James said indifferently, "Who knows how he showed up here again."

Gina voiced her concern, "You should still be careful. The look in his eyes earlier was quite vicious; he’s probably out for revenge."

Emily Lopez immediately opened her eyes, excitedly saying, "Brother-in-law, so you have enemies seeking revenge on you? That sounds so fun."
