The Supreme Soldier in the City

"Sunny Nguyen, although we were married for a while, that time with you was not happy for me. However, I admit that my leaving you was a wrongdoing on my part, and that’s why I said those things to you, as a way to express an apology. I wanted to give you some form of compensation, but I’ve realized that I’ve thought wrong. Compensating you would mean being unfaithful to Mary, it would be a desecration of my true love for Mary. So all I can say to you now is sorry, and that our issues should end here. From now on, you should just take care of yourself."

James Clark stood tall with his chest puffed out, speaking in a manner both exhilarating and sorrowful, exhibiting a great sense of righteousness.

Then, wrapping an arm around Mary Johnson’s shoulder, he said in a soft voice: "Mary, I’m sorry, I’ve been too kind-hearted. I always felt guilty towards her, and that’s why I acted as such. I will not do this anymore because I know doing so would be an even greater wrong to you and to your love."

Mary Johnson was the kind of woman who was simple-minded and quick-tempered. Frankly speaking, she was somewhat lacking in wits, which is why James Clark had managed to win her over so easily. Now, hearing what James Clark had said in front of Sunny, her anger towards him dissipated significantly.

However, her reduced hatred towards James Clark did not mean the same towards Sunny. In Mary’s heart, Sunny was nothing but a sly temptress. As long as Sunny was around, she posed the greatest threat to Mary. Sunny’s beauty and grace were something Mary could not match, even if she tried.

"Is that so? Then prove it to me," Mary said, glaring viciously at Sunny.

James Clark’s mouth twitched. Such a scene had happened once before. The last time, at the G Region’s corporate headquarters, Mary had made him attack Sunny, but it was thwarted by James Brown. At that time, James Clark had felt somewhat relieved; if he really were forced to hit Sunny, he would have found it difficult to bring himself to do it.

But this time it was different. If he didn’t hit Sunny now, he was surely doomed, and all his efforts would be wasted. As long as he could maintain his marriage with Mary, he could retain his current status. With that, money and prestige would be guaranteed, and getting together with a few beautiful women would be an easy affair.

James Clark gritted his teeth fiercely, pulled Mary away, and dragged the chair in front of Sunny to stand before her. However, upon meeting Sunny’s gaze, James realized it was all over between them. Last time when he went to hit Sunny, her eyes were full of humiliated tears, which showed how heartbroken she was that their marital bond had turned out this way.
