Chapter 217 - 218 Secretly
After buying groceries, James Brown personally cooked a lavish dinner. He drank quite a bit with Jonathan Lopez before taking his leave. He had a good reason, after all, since the place was small with only two bedrooms, it wouldn’t be right to make the old couple stay elsewhere or drive Emily Lopez out, so he decided to make do for the night at the office.
Fortunately, Charlotte Grandy didn’t call during dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Lopez tonight, otherwise, there would have been even more trouble. Yet, when he got home, he didn’t see Charlotte. From the signs around the house, it seemed Charlotte hadn’t been back since she left in the morning.
This got James worried. Now that Charlotte was staying at his place, if something happened to her, he would bear an inescapable responsibility. Although James Brown was unafraid of the responsibility, he couldn’t get over his own concerns. He quickly called Charlotte, but her phone was switched off, and this increased his worry.
At this moment, Emma Campbell called and informed him that Charlotte’s parents had taken her back home and confiscated her phone. She could only use QQ online to notify Emma. Emma had gone out with classmates for the evening and came back a bit late, only to see the message then and there, hence she informed James.
Knowing that Charlotte was safe, James finally felt relieved and also a little more relaxed; otherwise, that girl’s presence was making things increasingly unbearable for him.
"Big Brother Brown, you... you..." Emma suddenly started to stammer.
James quickly said, "What’s wrong? Just say it. Are you running short on cash?"
"No, no!" Emma hurriedly denied.
"Then what’s the matter? Did you run into some trouble?"
"I... I just wanted to ask Big Brother Brown... do you... do you miss me?"
James was taken aback for a moment, then a strong wave of warmth surged through him and he tenderly said, "Of course I miss you. I want to hold you right now. Shall I pick you up?"
