Chapter 186: Conflict
James Brown ignored the two of them and, with a smile, said to Sunny Nguyen, "Sunny, come, let’s eat. If they want to argue, let them be. We’ll focus on our meal."
Sunny Nguyen chuckled lightly and sat opposite James Brown, burying her head in her food.
Once James had made that comment, Gina and Emily stopped talking and also lowered their heads to eat, granting James some peace for his ears.
However, it wasn’t long before someone stepped on his left foot. He tried to pull it back, and though he succeeded, his slipper was left behind, trapped under the offending foot, which promptly followed his retreat—in a clear sign of deliberate mischief.
It was a hot day, and while James had been wearing leather shoes with socks for work, he had dressed casually at Gina’s house. After all, he’d lived there for a while, so he had simply taken off his socks and was now barefoot.
Turning his head to look at Emily on his left, the young girl was puffing her cheeks, thoroughly enjoying her food. One couldn’t tell at all that her foot was playing tricks under the table.
But James was very aware that it must be Emily, the mischief-maker. They had played this game before—once, during a game of mahjong at Emily’s place, they had used this technique to signal each other secretly. James’s memory of the feeling of Gina’s small foot was quite vivid.
However, back then, the reason for their footsie game had been to communicate in code, so there were no other intentions, and for James, that had been thrilling enough. Had he not restrained himself, he might have made a fool of himself.
This time, Emily’s little foot on James’s foot was not as innocent as before. It was clearly a form of seduction.
If it weren’t for having given up on his thoughts about Melody Yoody and not having established a relationship with Emma Campbell, James would have quite enjoyed the sensation. However, now that he had a girlfriend, despite the fact that James might not completely avoid contact with other women for Emma’s sake, he still wanted to restrain himself from anything too excessive. So, he tried to pull his foot back.
"Brother-in-law, I’m not feeling well, let me step on you for a while," Emily suddenly announced quite openly.
