Chapter 663: Ruby’s Threat
She gently shook her head.
"It’s all right. It was only an anniversary."
Her unusually calm response made Peter panic even more.
He hurriedly blurted out, "It’s something you mentioned just this week!"
His eyes widened anxiously. "I’m preparing that gift for you!"
The moment those words left his mouth, Adriana froze.
"Something I mentioned this week?"
She lowered her gaze thoughtfully.
Her mind immediately replayed every conversation they had shared over the past several days.
Then...she suddenly remembered.
A few days ago, while chatting casually about her upcoming birthday trip, she had complained about wanting to visit the Hawaiian Islands.
Unfortunately, airline tickets had already sold out. She had jokingly pouted and muttered,
"If only I had my own helicopter... then I could fly there whenever I wanted."
A moment later, she had laughed again and added,
"Actually, having a private jet wouldn’t be bad either."
At the time, she had simply been joking.
Surely... Peter couldn’t possibly have taken those words seriously.
Could he? She slowly looked toward Peter. A storm of disbelief and uncertainty raged inside her heart.
’No... he wouldn’t actually...’
Peter looked at her with complete sincerity. Then, taking a deep breath, he finally revealed everything.
"I’m planning to give you a helicopter."
Silence. Even Olivia’s mouth slowly fell open in shock.
Her eyes widened so much that she almost forgot to blink. Adriana herself stood rooted to the spot.
Peter smiled helplessly. "I still had around two months before your birthday. So I wanted to prepare everything in advance."
He sighed softly. "But now..."
He scratched his head awkwardly. "...I’ve been forced to spoil the surprise."
He smiled bitterly.
"I’d rather ruin your birthday surprise than let you break up with me before I even get the chance to give it to you."
Hearing those heartfelt words, guilt slowly filled Adriana’s heart.
She lowered her eyes. "I really did think about breaking up..."
But at the same time... she didn’t believe she had been completely unreasonable.
After all, Peter had indeed become busier recently.
Almost every day, he remained occupied with his newly established company.
He often worked late into the night. He had forgotten their anniversary altogether.
If this had continued happening over and over again... wouldn’t their relationship slowly fall apart?
Why should someone wait until they’re hurt countless times before admitting the relationship isn’t working?
Because of everything Henry had done to her in the past, Adriana had unconsciously become much more cautious.
She constantly feared repeating the same painful mistakes. That fear had nearly destroyed her relationship with Peter as well.
Taking a slow, deep breath, she walked toward him. Looking directly into his eyes, she spoke softly.
"I’m sorry..."
She smiled apologetically. "I shouldn’t have doubted you."
Peter immediately shook his head. "No."
He gently held her hands. "I’m the one who should apologize."
He lowered his head slightly.
"No matter what reason I had... I still forgot our anniversary. There isn’t any excuse for that."
Adriana smiled warmly. "Then..."
She looked toward the cake sitting on the table. "How about we make a pie together and eat it with the cake?"
Peter’s eyes immediately lit up. "Of course."
The two smiled at one another before walking hand in hand toward the kitchen.
Watching the atmosphere become sweet once again, Olivia almost exploded from frustration.
’Seriously? What was the point of everything I did? I offended both my sister and my future brother-in-law... and I didn’t even gain anything.’
Still, her shameless personality quickly resurfaced. She shamelessly raised one hand.
"If you’re making pie..."
She smiled brightly. "I want an apple pie."
Adriana glanced sideways at her. "It’s time you learned how to make one yourself."
She pointed toward the kitchen door. "Now give us some privacy."
Olivia immediately widened her eyes in disbelief. "How dare you!"
She dramatically placed a hand over her chest.
"Aren’t you my sister? As my elder sister, you’re supposed to take care of me forever. And now you’re actually telling me to leave so the two of you can spend time alone?"
She pouted dramatically. "Isn’t that too much?"
Adriana nodded thoughtfully. "Actually..."
A mischievous smile slowly spread across her face. "If you really want to stay, I don’t mind. You can even watch how we become intimate."
Olivia’s entire face twisted in disgust. She hurriedly covered both ears.
"Enough!"
She shivered dramatically. "Honestly, Adriana..."
She pointed accusingly at Peter.
"I think you’ve become more and more shameless ever since you started dating him."
Without waiting for another response, she immediately turned around and stormed away.
Watching her flee, Adriana couldn’t help laughing. She understood perfectly.
Olivia wasn’t truly angry. She was simply upset because nobody had appreciated everything she had done.
Peter chuckled as well. "I’ll buy her something she’s wanted for a long time."
Adriana raised an eyebrow. "You already know what she wants?"
Peter smiled sheepishly. "No. I don’t."
Then he looked toward Adriana.
"But you do. You’re her sister. You probably know better than anyone."
Adriana laughed softly. "That’s true."
She gently squeezed his hand.
"Come on. Let’s make something delicious."
Meanwhile... upstairs, Aurora and Theodore watched as Olivia returned with an expression that looked as though the entire world had betrayed her.
She continued muttering under her breath. "Shameless... Both of them are absolutely shameless."
She snorted. "I’ll never interfere in their relationship again."
Seeing her reaction, Theodore immediately looked toward Aurora with a wide grin.
Without saying anything, he silently extended his hand. Aurora rolled her eyes. "I still want confirmation."
She turned toward Olivia. "So?"
She smiled curiously. "Did Sister forgive Peter or not?"
Olivia remained silent for several seconds before answering unwillingly. "...She did."
Theodore immediately burst into laughter. "See!"
He proudly looked at Aurora. "I told you she’d forgive him."
He extended his palm once more. "My ten thousand dollars."
Aurora pouted unhappily. "What?"
She crossed her arms. "I honestly thought she’d show a little more backbone."
Olivia immediately shook her head. "That’s not what happened."
She recounted everything from beginning to end.
After listening to the entire story, Aurora’s mouth slowly fell open.
Adriana had only mentioned wanting a helicopter and a private jet in passing.
Yet Peter had silently remembered every single word and had begun preparing such an extravagant gift months in advance.
Aurora couldn’t help feeling slightly envious.
She herself had planned to buy Adriana a private jet someday.
She simply hadn’t found the right opportunity yet.
Yet Peter had quietly worked so hard behind everyone’s backs just to fulfill one of Adriana’s casual wishes.
It truly was a relationship worthy of envy.
Just as everyone was immersed in their own thoughts...
Far away...
Inside the quiet city library, Mary sat at a wooden table, carefully organizing several documents.
The silence was suddenly broken by the vibration of her phone.
Buzz... she picked it up and glanced at the screen.
A message from Ruby had arrived.
"Aunt Mary, there are a few important things I need to discuss with you."
Seeing the unexpected message, Mary’s brows furrowed slightly.
Another message popped up.
"Please meet me after your shift is over. I’ll be waiting for you at the Third Wave Café."
Reading the message, Mary frowned slightly. A trace of irritation flashed across her face before she calmly deleted it without a second thought.
’There is nothing left for us to talk about.’
Ever since Ruby, Tan, and Jean had been kicked out of the residential building because of everything that had happened, Mary no longer wanted anything to do with them.
To her, the three of them were no different from a burden she had finally managed to throw away.
Meanwhile, Ruby had already expected this kind of response. Without wasting a second, she sent another message.
"If you don’t come, then remember this. Whatever happens to the Waters family from this day onward will be entirely your responsibility."
Reading those words, Mary’s brows knitted together.
Although she wasn’t frightened of Ruby herself, the thought of the Waters Family getting dragged or wrongfully accused made her rethink her decision.
After pondering for a few moments, Mary finally decided to go.
Since she had several bodyguards accompanying her, she wasn’t particularly worried about her own safety.
Soon, she arrived at the Third Wave Café.
Mary’s sharp eyes immediately landed on Ruby, who was seated side by side in a secluded corner.
The moment she saw them, she couldn’t help but narrow her eyes.
She looked utterly miserable.
Her clothes were wrinkled, dark circles surrounded her eyes, and her face had become noticeably thinner.
She looked as though she hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in several days.
Suppressing the complicated emotions in her heart, Mary calmly pulled out a chair and sat opposite them.
"Now then, Ruby, what exactly did you want to talk about?"
Instead of answering immediately, Ruby forced a smile.
"Let’s order something first. We can talk while we eat."
She waved toward one of the waiters.
"Bring us your most expensive dishes along with your finest drinks."
The waiter nodded politely before walking away.
