Chapter 647: Niel
The reason was quite simple.
Angie had wanted to make sure that his mother had no choice but to focus all of her attention on him.
And it turned out that his gamble had worked.
Back then, after his younger brother had disappeared, his mother had poured all of her attention, resources, and expectations onto him alone.
At the time, he had felt relieved, convinced that everything would be fine from then on.
Now, however, things were completely different. The same mother who had once protected him was looking at him with disappointment and anger.
Fear gripped Angie’s heart.
Without wasting another second, he hurried outside. The moment he saw his mother standing there beneath the dim lights, he immediately knelt on the ground.
"Mother... Mother, please don’t be angry."
His voice trembled slightly. "I understand my mistake. I promise. I swear that I will never go after Olivia again."
Hearing those words, Angie’s mother looked down at him silently. The anger in her eyes did not disappear immediately.
After a long moment, she finally spoke. "Listen carefully. This is your last chance."
Her voice was cold. Then her expression softened slightly. "It’s not that I don’t want you to take revenge, Angie."
She sighed deeply. "But revenge requires patience."
Her gaze became serious. "You need to wait for the right opportunity. Otherwise, you’ll be eliminated before you can even make a move."
Angie lowered his head. For the first time in a long while, he genuinely felt afraid.
Meanwhile, there were others who had already received reports regarding Olivia nearly being attacked.
They were none other than Louis and Aurora. When Louis learned about it, his expression immediately darkened.
Without hesitation, he deployed several trusted subordinates of his own.
However, instead of directly attacking Angie, he ordered them to create trouble from the shadows.
Problems that would slowly weaken Angie’s influence without exposing the mastermind behind them.
Meanwhile, Aurora sat quietly in her office. Although Angie’s mother had stopped the attack this time, Aurora couldn’t feel relieved.
’How long will this last?’
Aurora knew exactly what kind of woman Angie’s mother was. She wasn’t someone driven by kindness. Nor was she someone overflowing with sympathy.
She was ambitious. Otherwise, she would never have reached her current position.
Therefore, Aurora quickly arrived at a conclusion. Angie’s mother hadn’t stopped her son because she suddenly cared about Olivia.
No. She had only stopped him because the timing wasn’t right. The woman was simply waiting for a better opportunity.
A more suitable moment. And when that moment arrived... she would strike.
Aurora’s eyes turned cold. ’If I let this continue, Olivia will eventually die.’
The thought made her clench her fists. ’No. I need to do something.’
That was when Aurora decided to meet Louis. Afterward, the two held a private meeting.
No one knew what was discussed. However, shortly after that meeting, everything began going in the wrong direction for Angie and his mother.
The influence they had spent years building slowly began to crumble. Small gangs started attacking their territory almost daily.
Businesses connected to them suddenly encountered problems. Their income streams decreased. Their reputation suffered. The pressure mounted day after day.
More importantly, new recruits started leaving. The younger members who had once admired Angie began abandoning the organization.
The moment they heard rumors about the gang’s declining condition, they immediately searched for safer opportunities elsewhere.
Those who remained became increasingly fearful. Within just half a month, more than half of their members had disappeared.
When Angie’s mother saw the reports, she became furious. Storming into Angie’s room, she slapped him hard across the face.
Smack! The sound echoed loudly. Angie’s eyes widened. This time, however, he didn’t remain silent. The stress and pressure he had endured finally exploded.
He jumped to his feet. "Mother! I already told you not to slap me!"
For a brief moment, he even raised his hand. The atmosphere instantly became tense. Yet instead of backing away, his mother laughed bitterly.
Then she shouted. "Go ahead! Go ahead and hit me!"
Tears suddenly began forming in her eyes. "Both you and your useless father are exactly the same!"
Her voice cracked. "Neither of you knows anything except how to bully others, sleep around, and act arrogant!"
Angie froze. He had never seen his mother like this before.
"You don’t know what responsibility means!"
She pointed at him with trembling fingers. "You don’t know how much effort I’ve spent trying to protect this family!"
At that moment, she completely broke down. Years of frustration erupted all at once.
Seeing her cry, Angie became stunned. His raised hand slowly lowered. His mother’s voice trembled as she continued.
"I warned you. I warned you again and again not to attack Olivia. But you refused to listen. You became arrogant. You thought having a little power meant you could do whatever you wanted."
Her eyes filled with disappointment. "Now look at what happened. You have to pay for the consequences."
Angie swallowed hard. His face had gone pale. "You mean..."
His voice shook. "All of this happened because of Olivia?"
His mother laughed bitterly. "You idiot! You still don’t understand?"
Her gaze turned cold. "The moment you decided to target Olivia, you offended people you should never have offended."
The realization finally struck Angie. His body became cold. After a long silence, his mother took a deep breath.
Then she spoke quietly. "Anyway, I don’t want to stay with you anymore."
Those words shocked him. "Since you and your father refuse to understand anything I say, then I won’t waste any more effort."
She turned around. "I’m done."
Immediately, panic filled Angie’s heart. He rushed after her. "Mother!"
His voice cracked.
"Please stop! You can’t leave! You have to guide me! You have to tell me what to do!"
However, this time, his mother didn’t stop. Nor did she look back.
She simply walked away. The sound of her footsteps gradually disappeared into the distance. Once she was far enough away, she took out her phone and dialed a number.
The call connected quickly. "I’ve already disowned my son."
Her voice sounded exhausted. "Can you let him live now?"
Silence followed. Then a calm voice answered from the other side. "You made the right decision."
The voice paused briefly. "Now make sure your son never becomes involved in underworld politics again."
Angie’s mother frowned. "I’ve already left him."
The voice immediately replied.
"That isn’t enough. You need to manipulate him. Guide him away from it. If you want your son to stay alive, do exactly as I say."
Hearing those words, Angie’s mother slowly closed her eyes. "I understand."
Deep inside, she knew this situation was partly her fault.
If she had been stricter. If she had taught him better. If she had corrected his behavior earlier.
Perhaps none of this would have happened. Eventually, Angie was completely forced out of underworld politics.
Even his mother quietly disappeared from the underworld.
Years passed. Ten years later, Louis received news regarding both Angie and his mother.
By then, they were already dead. Angie’s mother had fallen into severe depression after losing everything she had worked for.
Meanwhile, Angie spent years working exhausting jobs just to pay for their daily expenses and medical bills.
Eventually, his body could no longer endure it. He collapsed from overwork and never woke up again.
As for his mother, her depression continued worsening. Without proper treatment or medication, she sank deeper and deeper into despair.
In the end, unable to bear the pain any longer, she chose to end her own life. When Louis heard the news, he simply remained silent.
But that was a story for another time.
For now, Aurora finally felt a sense of relief when Angie and his mother completely withdrew from the underworld. It wasn’t a complete victory, but at the very least, it removed one of the biggest threats hanging over Olivia’s head.
Meanwhile, Gwen’s situation was becoming increasingly complicated.
When the lawsuit was officially filed against her, her husband’s face turned extremely dark.
His name was Niel.
Niel stared at Gwen for a long time before a dark smile appeared on his face.
"You did the right thing, didn’t you?"
His voice was filled with sarcasm. "After all, you were protecting your position as a wife."
The moment she heard those words, Gwen’s eyes immediately became red.
Tears began gathering at the corners of her eyes.
Suddenly, she shouted. "If it wasn’t for you, would I have ended up like this?"
Her voice trembled with years of resentment. "No! It’s all your fault!"
She pointed at him accusingly. "You never gave me enough security!"
Niel froze. For several seconds, he simply stared at her.
Then he laughed. "Yeah."
He nodded. "Of course. Now it has become my fault."
A trace of bitterness appeared in his eyes. "Sometimes I truly wonder..."
His voice lowered. "If I had never married you, would I have been this miserable?"
Hearing those words, Gwen became furious. Her entire body trembled.
"Everything I’ve done until now was for our family!"
