Chapter 99 - Eighty-Four

"Did you find anything, John?" I ask as I lean closer to his computer to get a clear view of the letters and words written on the screen.
"I am looking into it," John replies, squinting at the screen.
I don’t understand what the hell in the world he is typing but I am aware that it must be something very important. I am very tense about Erwin and Ruth. I don’t know how they dealt with James. And believe me, I don’t want to think about that motherfucker even for a minute. But the thing is I am very curious about how Jean got James out of jail without my knowledge. I made extra sure that I got informed every time he visited or tried to do something like bail him out.
But so far I got notified about very few visits and Jean didn’t seem to try to get James out of the jail. I thought that was maybe because of my threat, that I would withdraw my shares. But now it seems like I underestimated Jean. He seems to be two steps ahead of me. He used some kind of backhanded methods and got his son out of jail. I should have been more careful.
Seems like all my work and Erwin is making me lose my edge, but I don’t blame Erwin. I am just getting softer for him and he is getting sharper for me. And here I thought I was in charge of the relationship...
"How long will it take for you two to get here?" I ask.
"We are almost here, Leo," Erwin says, I can tell that he is grinning like he never did before even without seeing him. "It will take around ten minutes."
"How?" Ruth pipes in, "We are still thirty minutes away from home."
"You should believe me when I say I will take only ten minutes to reach there," Erwin says, his tone stern. He really has split personalities.
Erwin acts all goofy and childish around me but when it comes to others, he treats them like they are nothing but trash, which holds no value in his eyes. It sometimes really amazes me just how quickly he can switch personalities.
