Chapter 70 - Sixty
LEO
Ultimately, I didn’t go back to the company as I was busy collecting evidence against my abusive elder sister. And you won’t believe what Ruth said after checking Tina up. He said there were too many bruises on her body, old and new and he needed a very long time to record them.
He also said that they were caused by excessive physical violence. Every single one of them. He then informed the police and we filed a case against Jessie.
The police were really shocked when they found out that I was the culprit’s brother. Their faces were laughable.
Kevin almost wept when I told him that I wouldn’t be coming back. He even begged me to do some work and it was too pitiful to ignore. After all, he is not entirely wrong. The amount of work that has been piled up for me is taller than me if I put them together.
I took the whole last week off and I am barely done with that week’s work. Let alone catching up on my daily work. I have a feeling that if it keeps going like this then I will have to give up on the project but I could care less about that. Even if I couldn’t care less about losing the project, my company does, so I have to work unless I want to prove myself an unworthy candidate for the chairman seat.
Right now I am taking Tina and Rita with me to my manor since they don’t have anywhere to go. I know they can also go to Tina’s parent’s house but the result will all be the same since Tina’s father would be intrigued and then throw them inside that hell of the house again. And I can’t let them do that. This is why I am taking Tina with me. She will be safer with me more than anyone in the world.
I cast a glance at the back seat where Tina is seated with Rita on her lap playing through the front mirror. Guess, I should buy some convertible seats for Rita. She has grown bigger in all the months I haven’t seen her. I think She doesn’t recognize me anymore since she has never tried to come to me in all these hours I have been out with them.
"Uh, Leo?" Tina hesitates, "Are you sure I can come with you? I mean won’t I intervene your quality time with your husband?"
"No, it’s all right. You, don’t have to worry about unnecessary details." I reassure her, "And Erwin isn’t that type of a person who hates people. He likes them. So rest assured and think about yourself."
She smiles mildly and nods hesitantly. Her shoulders are stiff and she looks wary of everything around her. It’s not her fault. After all these years of torture and torment at last she is free but she still can’t cope with it. It will take some time and she has plenty of it.
