Chapter 396: Keep holding onto me
"Why do you want to see Layla now?" David asked as he drove. "You could have invited her home instead of going all the way to her company."
"Stop complaining, David," Ruby said, crossing her arms. "If you don’t want to take me there, you can drop me off right here." She glared at her fiancé before adding, "I know you and Lucius don’t get along, but that doesn’t mean you can stop me from visiting Layla at her workplace."
David sighed, gripping the steering wheel tighter. "Ruby, that’s not what I meant. You know what kind of man Lucius is. It’s better to stay away from him."
"You can’t badmouth my best friend’s husband in front of me," Ruby pouted, turning her head away.
"Alright, alright. I’ll keep my mouth shut," David relented, shaking his head as he continued driving.
A few minutes later, they pulled up in front of the towering glass skyscraper of the De Salvo Group. Before David could say another word, Ruby leaned over, gave him a quick peck on the cheek, and hopped out of the car.
"Ruby, slow down!" David called after her, but she was already dashing toward the grand rotating doors, her pointed heels clicking against the pavement. With a resigned sigh, David stepped out of the car but chose to stay outside, knowing that going in wouldn’t be the best idea.
As Ruby entered the building, a few heads turned in her direction, but her gaze was already locked onto a familiar figure—Layla, walking alongside Lucius.
"Layla!" she called out excitedly.
