Chapter 381: Don’t be heartless
"Instead of questioning me, you should be worrying about yourself," Sylvia said, crossing her arms. "Why did you jump into the apartment when it caught fire? You could have lost your life."
Aiden raised an eyebrow, amused. "Is that concern I hear from you, Sylvia? I’m surprised."
"It’s not concern," she dismissed his remark instantly. Glancing over her shoulder, she added, "I’m heading back. The reporters might want to interview a so-called ’brave citizen’ like you."
Aiden chuckled and fell into step beside her. "Then I better stick around to protect you if they come too close."
Sylvia shot him a sharp look. "Why? Don’t bother me. Handle your own problems."
Aiden feigned a wounded expression. "Is that any way to treat an injured man? Everyone else was praising me, except for you."
"They must have lost their minds then," Sylvia retorted. "They don’t know how much you enjoy showing off your so-called bravery."
As she rounded the corner, she abruptly halted behind an ambulance, causing Aiden to stop as well.
"What is it?" he asked, noticing her tense stance.
Sylvia let out an exasperated sigh. "The reporters are swarming the area. They will eventually catch you." She stepped ahead when Aiden held her hand.
"Don’t go," Aiden said, grabbing Sylvia’s wrist. She glanced at their hands before shooting him a glare, prompting him to let go immediately.
