After so many years, snow had finally fallen in Rome, which was a rare event. The usually bustling streets were now filled with joyous shouts and laughter as people embraced the unexpected wonder.
Layla was among them, her excitement uncontainable as she stretched out her hands, gathering delicate snowflakes in her palms.
Lucius, however, wasn’t captivated by the snowfall. He was mesmerized by her. The way her white-toothed smile stretched all the way to her eyes, the way she laughed with pure delight—it was a sight more beautiful than any winter wonder he had ever seen.
"Lucius," Layla called, turning to him with a playful glint in her eyes. "Do you know what they say if you watch the first snowfall with your lover?"
Lucius arched a brow, clearly intrigued. "Is there such a saying?"
"Yes!" she exclaimed, her laughter ringing through the air. "They say lovers who witness the first snowfall stay together forever."
Lucius watched her for a moment, his lips curving into a rare, genuine smile. Snowflakes clung to her hair, her cheeks slightly pink from the cold, and he felt warmth spread through his chest.
"Then," he murmured in his deep voice, as his hands slid around her waist, pulling her close. "I suppose we’re bound together forever, Layla."
"Yes," she whispered, her hands resting on his arms.
