Chapter 316: I’m dead serious
"What did he say?" Layla asked her mother-in-law.
Evelina hesitated, torn between telling Layla the truth and keeping her in the dark. But lying wasn’t an option—not when the stakes were so high.
There was no way she could take Layla outside with her, not when Lucius would never allow it. Yet, if she didn’t act quickly, Vladimir would make good on his threats. Her family in London would be in danger.
"Say something," Layla pressed, her brows knitting together in concern.
Taking a deep breath, Evelina finally spoke. "Layla, Vladimir wants to see you." Her voice trembled slightly, her fear was evident in her voice. "Please, you have to come outside with me. If you don’t, Vladimir will harm my family in London. I beg you." She clasped her hands together while being desperate.
Layla was stunned to learn that. Vladimir couldn’t fight with them, so he decided to get her to weaken Lucius. She would never let it happen. "I will tell Lucius about this," she said firmly, preparing to stand her ground.
"No!" Evelina shot up from her seat, grabbing Layla’s hands in a tight grip. "Don’t do that, Layla. Please." Her voice wavered, and her grip tightened.
"Did you not hear the truth from my lips earlier? Antoine died because I hid Vladimir’s son. He will do the same to my family in London without a second thought. I beg you, Layla, don’t tell Lucius anything. You have no idea what Vladimir is capable of." Evelina’s eyes glistened with unshed tears as she pleaded, hoping Layla would understand the danger they were facing.
"But if we don’t tell Lucius, everything will get ruined," Layla replied.
"Are you sure telling Lucius the truth will make everything right? What if my husband and my kids in London get hurt because of it? Will you take responsibility for that?" Evelina questioned her. "Layla, I don’t think Vladimir wants to harm you. He only wants to see you because of Lucius."
Layla parted her lips to respond, but before she could, the doors burst open with a loud bang.
