Chapter 283: My comforting person
Ivy reluctantly pulled away first, lifting her gaze to meet his. Her eyes fluttered shut for a brief moment as his fingers grazed her cheek, tenderly tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
"You should get some sleep," Roderick murmured as he withdrew his hand.
Ivy offered a faint hum in response, her lips curving in a subtle, bittersweet smile. Turning on her heels, she disappeared into the bedroom, leaving him behind. Closing the door gently, she leaned against it, her chest rising and falling as if trying to steady her thoughts.
The room was dimly lit, the soft glow of the bedside lamp casting faint shadows on the walls. Her gaze wandered across the space before she pushed herself away from the door and made her way to the washroom.
The sound of running water filled the silence as she freshened up, splashing cool water over her face in an attempt to silence the flutter in her chest.
Dressed for bed, she climbed under the covers, but sleep didn’t come. Her thoughts lingered on Roderick—his soft touch, the unspoken emotions in his gaze.
Curiosity got the better of her, tugging her from the comfort of the bed. With cautious movements, she pushed the door open, slipping out barefoot while being careful not to make a sound.
Her eyes scanned the room, and there he was. Roderick sat on the floor near the window, watching the rain pouring. His knees were drawn up, and his arms wrapped loosely around them, his head tilted back as if lost in thought.
Ivy hesitated for a moment before walking over to him. She lowered herself to sit beside him.
"Why aren’t you asleep?" Roderick tilted his head toward her, a slight frown creasing his brow.
"I couldn’t fall asleep," Ivy admitted, her gaze shifting from him to the room cloaked in shadows. "Are you planning to sit here the entire night like this?"
