Chapter 266: Unrestrained hunger
Roderick was taken aback by Ivy’s revelation. It was clear Elliot had decided to end things with her, likely hoping it would help her move on. Yet, Roderick chose to remain silent, withholding his thoughts.
"Aren’t you going to say something?" Ivy asked, feeling frustrated.
"What should I say? I can’t judge this situation since I don’t know the full story—what you two shared or why Elliot suddenly made this choice," Roderick replied without being biased. Even though Elliot had revealed the truth to him, he couldn’t tell it to Ivy since it could have hurt her.
"You’re right," Ivy murmured, lowering her gaze. After a brief pause, she asked, "Do you still like Layla?"
The question caught Roderick off guard, and his composure faltered momentarily. "Why do you want to know?" he asked, his brows furrowing.
"How are you coping?" Ivy continued. "Seeing Layla every day must be unbearable. I want to learn how you’ve managed to move on."
"You need some sleep," Roderick said, brushing off her probing.
"I’m serious," she insisted, her eyes locking onto his. "If there’s one thing we have in common, it’s that neither of us can be with the people we love. Tell me, how do you do it?"
Roderick exhaled deeply as he shook his head. "I’ve been throwing myself into work. Keeping busy helps. And... I’ve accepted that she’s out of reach. So, I’m doing my best to let her go," he said, as if confessing to himself as much as to her.
