Chapter 256: Selfish of me
"Why did you two never reveal it to the others?" Roderick asked, his curiosity evident as he leaned closer, his gaze fixed on Ivy.
She swirled the remnants of her drink before taking the final sip. "We thought it was better to keep it a secret until we were sure about... marrying each other." She paused, her voice lowering as if the words weighed her down. "But in the end, he decided we shouldn’t marry each other."
The bitterness in her tone didn’t go unnoticed by Roderick. He reached out as she motioned to refill her glass, stopping her hand gently but firmly. "That’s enough," he said.
He signaled for the bill, pulling out his wallet to settle it. Once done, he turned to her. "Come on, let’s get out of here," he suggested, standing up and holding out his hand.
Ivy hesitated, staring at his outstretched hand. For a moment, she considered refusing. However, Roderick held her hand and dragged her out of the bar.
"I feel dizzy," Ivy murmured, her steps faltering as the pain from her heels became unbearable. "Please, slow down."
Roderick paused immediately, his gaze shifting to her with concern. "What’s the name of the man you were seeing?" he asked.
Ivy glanced at him, eyebrows furrowing. "Why do you want to know?"
Roderick’s expression grew serious as if he was pondering something. "I want to speak with him—to make sure he doesn’t make the same foolish mistake I did."
