Chapter 191: To hold you close
Lucius’s eyes wide opened and he took a deep breath. He heard the beeping sound of the machine and felt a strange ache in his entire body. He looked around, finding the room only had a dim yellow light turned on.
"Layla," he murmured hoarsely, the name escaping his lips like a prayer. Panic began to bubble within him. Struggling against the wires and mask tethering him to the bed, he pushed himself upright.
"Layla! Layla!" His voice rose, filled with desperation as he clawed at the oxygen mask, pulling it away.
Outside the room, Roger, his ever-loyal confidant, heard the commotion. Without hesitation, he slid the door open and was met with the sight of Lucius fumbling to yank the IV needle from his hand. Roger rushed to his side, gripping his wrist firmly yet gently.
"Boss, please! Calm down!" Roger urged, his voice laced with concern. He pressed the call button on the wall to summon medical assistance.
Lucius’s piercing gaze locked onto Roger. "Where’s Layla? Is she alright?" he demanded.
Roger nodded reassuringly. "Madam is fine, Boss. She’s in the next room. I’ll call her right away."
He carefully guided Lucius to reclined bed, gently putting the oxygen mask over his face. Moments later, the nurse arrived, followed closely by the doctor overseeing Lucius’s care. Roger stepped aside to make room, giving the doctor a respectful nod before slipping out of the room to deliver the news.
He strode briskly to the next room. He opened the door to find Layla perched on a chair, her head resting against her folded arms on the bed.
