Chapter 157: Left me alone
"Sylvia, don’t eye a married man. Lucius doesn’t like your presence and the way you bother him is sickening. He is kind to you because of Matteo. And I’ve told you before too, I won’t be kind to you," Layla said in am intimidating tone.
Sylvia, unfazed, chuckled as she walked past Layla, deliberately brushing her shoulder against hers.
Roderick, observing the scene with a pointed look, spoke up. "I’ve heard she wants to marry my uncle." He paused, pulling out his phone. "Also, he allowed her to kiss him when she landed in Italy."
Layla raised an eyebrow as Roderick showed her the picture on his screen. "Someone sent this to me that day, but I kept quiet. But seeing how openly Sylvia challenges you now, I thought I should tell you," he added, his tone uncharacteristically serious.
The photo showed Lucius with his hand clenched into a fist, while Sylvia kissed him on the cheek. Layla stared at the image before gazing at Roderick.
"What do you want to prove by showing me this?" Layla asked, her voice steady but tinged with frustration.
Roderick’s expression softened. "That my uncle might leave you for Sylvia. For his late friend, he’s willing to make sacrifices. I know you’ve given your heart to him, but you should understand what kind of man he was in the past. Right now, he’s not showing you his violent side, but once he does, you might wish you ran away from him."
"It seems you know your uncle better than me," Layla remarked.
"Oh, I do. He loves to take lives," Roderick stated.
"Stop it!" Layla snatched his phone and deleted that photo. "Lucius never killed your father. So, stop blaming him. He is hurt because of people like you," she muttered, her eyes flickering rapidly as anger coursing through her veins.
"Layla, you’re too kind. You believe whatever my uncle shows you, thinking it’s the truth," Roderick said, stepping closer to her.
